Newbie looking for cheap dependable table
Buy it for sure. Don't forget you'll need a phono section with gain structure appropriate to the output of your cartridge. For high output buy the Bellari VP 129 and for low output a Lehmann black cube. You should be able to do all that and stay u...
Possible Upgrade: requesting ideas
Zu is the best you can do in all areas except WAF. My wife actually likes the looks but it is likely that she is an exception. No grills. Hi tech looking drivers will always be looking back at her. On the other hand they reproduce 16 HZ, are 4 fee...
JRDG Concentra/Concerto phono stage
I used a ZYX Airy R-1000 straight into my Concerto preamp. The above stated gain agrees with my figures and the Concerto played my .24 mv cartridge as loud as my other sources. There is a little keypad inside the preamp for each channel. Just move...
Best 3 options for SET amps
I use Zu Druids with an Onix SP-3 tube integrated. Plays loud, very musical, fast, transparent and nothing I have ever heard energizes a room in quite the same way. Bass to 35Hz with character and weight you could never imagine by looking at them....
$15.00 Audiophile integrated
That's right and you get an EQ of sorts in the deal as each driver would have its own volume control.
Always on ?
I've always understood that electronic devices wear out as a result of thermal cycles rather than continual service. If that is so, leave everything on. Products vary but the cost of energy relative to the cost of these toys is minimal.
Tracking Force for Denon DL-103r
This observation may be naive but couldn't the optimum tracking force vary from one DL 103R to the next and wouldn't the mileage on the cartridge as it relates to suspension have some effect also? What about VTA? Doesn't that change slightly with ...
Onix SP3 or Jolida 502B?
I have Onix, don't know about Jolida but my math says the resultant load will be below 3.5 ohms and I doubt any tube amp will be at its best with a nominal impedance that low. If you do it, use the 4 ohm speaker taps.
Noobie question ...
I agree with zenieth -- personal preference. Lots of people like to pour ketchup all over their sirloin. Those of you who feel strongly about tone controls should know that each pot only affects one frequency. So all you can really do with them is...
What is a good sounding classic tube amps to hunt?
Onix SP-3 is a 38 watt tubed integrated that will outperform all the classics. Only 2 inputs and 1 output but build quality and sound that ranks at premium level. Can be found used on this site for as little as $500.
Clear upgrade from 10T's?
I owned 10T's for several years. Went to Avalon Eclipse. Went to Goldmund Dialogue. Now have Zu Druids and discovered, much to my wife's delight, that they perform very well smack up against the front wall. No image problem, no bass problem, no ki...
Question for Zu owners
It seems that the strength of the Zu speakers is their simplicity and directness. I imagine that would be compromised by the kluginess of multi channel. On the other hand, if you are going to do it, there is nothing better to do it with. Zu has a ...
Question for Zu owners
Druids in stereo work pretty well. I don't get airplanes flying behind me but there are some pretty intriguing phantom sound effects. I've got a 42 inch plasma on the wall bracketed by Druids and a very heavy credenza from the used office furnitur...
What happened to my Rowland?
Rowland of 2006 is as good as ever. Jeff still does everything himself.
Tis a sad, sad day...
Sell the rest of your U.S. system before you go and buy everything new in H.K. Zu has a very large presence in Asia, much bigger than here and a much better speaker than the ones you sold. I have some Chinese tube equipment that is both excellent ...
