What is the 'Chales Shaw' of loudspeakers?
Cerwin Vega would likely suit your tastes. They used to offer a delicious sharkskin finish and ports large enough to store a couple of bottles of your favorite wine horizontally. I wish I could remember the model number for you. Bottoms up!!
Amp for below 105 Hz
Get a ballsy SS integrated with remote. Then you can adjust your bass gain to balance with the midrange from your listening position. Plinius would be my choice.
Tyler Woodmere II: any advices?
My conversation with Ty about 5 years ago led me to believe that he is first and foremost a woodworker. So I believe he makes his cabinets, or at least oversees their construction. The bit about him sanding your very speakers sounds like a photo-o...
The phase button on my Rowland Capri is for...?
Dcstep - I have the Capri (w/phono), 102 and PC-1. I'm very pleased with it all. I can't characterize the sound for you but I will say that Rowland is for grownups. It's elegant, convenient, quiet and ergonomically sound. Very pretty too. When you...
The phase button on my Rowland Capri is for...?
Since you are running balanced lines, I can introduce another variable. You will notice that your XLR plugs have three pins. These are positive, negative and ground. In some electronics you will have a ground 2 pin and in others it will be the 3 p...
Tyler Woodmere II: any advices?
My advice is keep looking. I tend to favor very high -efficiency speakers with interesting technology or a very good pedigree. Your current line of inquiry will lead you to neither.
Have $600 Need input on upgrade for Acurus Amp
I agree with Darkmoebius. Rotel and Marsh are both very solid options. So is the Aragon.
Owners of speakers by obscure companies chime in
The measure of obscurity, in this context at least, is how well known you are. The Zu name has some recognition but the posts I read here on Audiogon would testify that familiarity with their products is still quite minimal.
Has the internet been good for audio?
Tvad - I list Audio Mart as my alma mater. The internet has been a mixed blessing in my opinion. It has provided an opportunity for good startups to get a toehold and it has provided an opportunity for not so good startups to do so also. The fores...
Has the internet been good for audio?
Yes - In the same way that forest fires are good for forests.
Owners of speakers by obscure companies chime in
If Zu is still obscure, I'll recommend you investigate their products. It would be fair to say they act obscure.
Amp recommendation please
A used Rowland 5 if you're big enough to lift it. Very powerful and very musical. Very refined. Very versatile.
AppleTV to external DAC?
T Bone - I already have component video cables snaked through the wall to my DVD player. I was planning to just switch them into the Apple TV and use a computer as a transport either wirelessly or via some digital connection like USB. What now?I'm...
AppleTV to external DAC?
I just ordered an Apple TV which should arrive next week and I share your confusion. My reading here on Audiogon leads me to believe that the optimum arrangement is USB out of Apple and USB in to your DAC. I don't yet have a USB DAC so I'm going t...
speaker recommendations?
NHT M-OO powered monitors with a Bellari VP-129 phono preamp. It has a volume control and a headphone jack. A passive pre-amp can be added for little money if you want multiple inputs and a sub if you need more bass. All this can be done increment...
