Why is 2 Channel better than multi-channel?
This thread has progressed haltingly through nearly nine years of inconclusive debate. During that time much has changed in the world around us and in our narrow area of special emphasis. My system has changed a lot since I first rendered an opini...
Why not horns?
I had a visit last week from David Wall of Snob Productions. He installed and calibrated my XTA DP-224 Speaker Management System for me.This effort replaced my DBX Drive Rack PA.With a tool like the XTA in the hands of a skilled sound engineer lik...

I agree with Hotrodaudio. Hi end audio began as a hobby and became a business. The transition was fairly smooth because the scale remained pretty small. Anyone (like Bose) who ventures into the mainstream will, of necessity, leave the hobby realm ...

Queen of the Rodeo might be a good working reference. The kids can probably come up with something more imaginative though. My suggestion isn't very modern even if it does encapsulate a solid notion. As I stated earlier, audio hasn't changed for me...

Don't worry about me. I promise not to sell my Rawson amp.

Audiogon_bill - It would appear that, chuckles aside, you didn't understand why I connected HH and HP. Both were lifestyle gurus in their time. Both sold an ego-driven self image. "What sort of a man reads Playboy?" vs. selfless pursuit of the Abs...

I have 2 sons in college. Both love music. Both play music. Both have NHT M-OO speakers with S-OO sub on their computers. They grew up with my system. Both were born at home with Pachelbel's Canon in D playing on my turntable in the adjacent room....

Fun is where you find it and America's blind obsessive pursuit of same will careen lurchingly onward in unexplainable, unjustifiable and unpredictable ways, aided by marketing magic and gullible overspending minions. High end audio is a small floa...
Why not horns?
I wrote the above entry yesterday with an eye toward hyperbole. Then this morning I wondered about the numbers and did this calculation. My drivers weigh 7.3 lbs each or 116.8 ounces. Gold bullion is selling today for $1324.66 per ounce. So that w...

Compression drivers for $76,000 per pair leaves me wondering what could possibly justify such a price. If my drivers were blocks of pure gold they might not be worth that much money.
Why not horns?
Vernneal - All of those points you mention could effect one's decision about whether or not he wants (or can have) horns. But you left out relativity. How big of a speaker is too big or how costly is too expensive, will be different for everyone. ...

You could say we have come full circle. Before I was old enough to get involved, audio reproduction for the home was the result of commercial products coming into the homes of industry people and Popular Workbench types. As it morphed into domesti...

Bill- In your "Just how bad is it?" thread you didn't see fit to admonish anyone for providing positive comments even though they did not seem to be getting into the spirit of the thread. If you want to call this a discussion, you have to be open t...
