Are DAC prices reflecting sound quality? One of the best DAC's I have had was the MHDT Labs Havana, and it was not expensive at all, under $700. I tried a bunch of DAC's in the $1000 - 3000 range, and the Berkeley too and I ended up buying a Bryston. I couldn't be happier, it's a great D...
What's the best way to get HD movies "on demand" One of them, I think it's Vudu advertises 1080 (i?) movies. I have AppleTV and it looks great, a little better than a standard DVD, not quite BluRay, but still great. Sound is v good, but not like the HD tracks BluRay.All in all, I never rent disc...
Which new VPI Turntable? the SDS is more a voltage regulator. It is a MUST on the Scout/Scoutmaster/AriesIII/HRX because of the motor. That is my experience. With the Classic it was never an issue, but I always had the APC on with in the system, so that could be the deter...
Power Cables which take the soundstage back Lissnr, I've done that test. I have bought several very expensive power cords to try with my amps, preamp and soucrces, and there was no apprciable improvement over the first level of cords I had bought. None at all. So about $2000 worth of cables...
which Brand of Reciever produces the Best Audio? If you are accustomed to vintage, buy a reciever to do the HT and surround, and a 2 channel preamp with Home Theater bypass, and a seperate front channel amp. Best of both worlds. Denon and Onkyo are great for HT, if you want hi-end stereo sound y...
Amp/Pre-Amp Selection for Vandersteen 5A's in HT buy the ARC, great match with the awesome Vandy's, and use the HT bypass and use a nice Denon (3810?) or higher level Onkyo for the HT. They will drive the center and rear channels without any problem and sound very good. You will never approach t...
Which new VPI Turntable? if you have a good power conditioner I don't think the SDS makes a big difference. Since you are 220, I am guessing Europe? I tried a million power conditioners because the grid near me (suburban Houston) was underbuilt, and not good. I found the ...
Which new VPI Turntable? I'm confused on the aluminum/SS arm? Mine came with the aluminum arm standard, and when I asked VPI about sub-ing the SS arm they said that was only needed, or recommended for heavier cartridges, and I should stick with the aluminum arm. But now I...
Power Cables which take the soundstage back Russe41, a voice of reason in a storm of superstition (or justifying a ridiculous purchase).
Which new VPI Turntable? it's not even close, I am surprised that VPI continues to sell the Scout. I have had both, and the Aries as well and the Classic is a much better table. Quieter, faster, better extension. I don't even have an isolation platform under the Classic a...
Horror story turned into a happy ending I have had some big problems with UPS too, recently they tried to back out of paying for damage they did to a subwoofer I sold and shipped.1) First of all, always pay extra insurance. If they accept your money, accept the package, and don't send i...
Power Cables which take the soundstage back It's Magic, It's Magic, It's Magic!!!I agree with LLanger whole heartedly. I think interconnects in general reach a rediculous level of diminishing returns very quickly. I think after you get past the first level of interconnect and speaker cable ...
CDs with heavy, fast bass and/or long drum solos Shardone, the new Cult - Love reissue has the "She Sells Sanctuary" 12" remastered as well, and....It does not sound as good as the original 12" remix that somehow I still own, and it is in pristine shape.I think the vinyl was definitely better ba...
Records are getting noisy even with the pops, i would take vinyl over digital any day, no comparison. Digital really does sound much thinner and hollow in comparison. I have never heard a great digital front end sound as good as a moderate vinyl one. I'll struggle through ...
Records are getting noisy Stilskin, good point, it does only seem to be on the newer records. Let me test that, thx. |
