Re-ripping music collection to new iMac
I did both, and did not notice any difference with the re-ripped tracks vs. the converted (to AppleLossLess) tracks.convert them first, then re-rip a few and compare them.good luck
Direct USB computer to coaxial outboard DAC
I was not clear, I guess what I meant was it would prob be easier to get a new DAC. I believe any conversion process would prob degrade the signal quality.
Re-ripping music collection to new iMac
If you can transfer the files to iTunes you can then convert all of the files to AppleLossLess files in iTunes.then you won't have to re-rip. I recently did something similar.
best artists in the last 15 years
I vote for the last 15 years being a barren waste land as far as popular music. Since the Seattle grunge scene, it's really been derivative. When the best thing I can think of in the last 15 yrs are Dixie Chicks, Nora Jones, Teirney Sutton, Diana ...
Direct USB computer to coaxial outboard DAC
you can do that with any computer to a USB DAC such as Benchmark, PS Audio or Bel Canto. A very easy way to do it is with a MacMini.
Note for those who buy used equipment...
This is not my experience at all. In fact any very well known high end manufacturer, I can name Vandersteen, Cary Audio, and especially Magnepan, continue to support thier products well into the ump-teenth generation owner. I have had Magenapan re...
Music Server
I am very, very, very happy with my Apple TV (all iTunes songs using AppleLossless files) and an extrenal DAC. It's easily the best interface. If you have an iPod and therefore an iTunes account there is almost nothing to setting it up either. Sin...
Speaker Purchase
Magnepan 1.6qr's and spend the rest on really good amplification and upstream equipment. I would suggest a VPI Scout with a Sumiko blackbird cartridge to start.good luck.
Best all around speakers
This is such a subjective hobby, I really got into this hobby when I accidentally heard some Magnepan 1.6r's when I went into a high end audio shop with a buddy of mine. He was looking for an expensive video set up, and we both walked out with Mag...
Gallos how good are they?
I tried the Gallos 3.1s a few years back and thought they were fantastic. With the optional sub amp, they really were a great full-range speaker, great dynamics, and threw off and an enormous soundstage. As Audiofreakgeek mentioned though, the ima...
Magnepan MG20 tweaks ?
After reading this I am interested in the Apogee's. What are their newest models, and can I get an audition of them in Houston, Chicago, or New York?
Budget AV Receiver with Magnepan
I think you can find a Denon AVR 3806 (which does have HDMI switching) in your price range, and it will definitely drive the Maggies. I owned this reciever, and loved it. I have had some very serious problems with NAD recievers and would never buy...
Blu Ray or Oppo?
I agree with Gmood1. I was about to buy a BluRay player when I got an AppleTV as they upgraded the firmware. Although it's not 1080p, the new HD movies look and sound great, and I fully expect the next update, or a future one to get resolution to ...
Down-firing subs and downstairs neighbors
Great true "Audiogon" story about this very subject. A couple of years ago I was selling a Parasound C2 and I got an email from someone asking if I would ship to France. I had never done that before, but said I would look into it. After researchin...
