A Dac about two thousand used
I've personally tried a handful of DAC's in the $1k - $3k range, and by far, the best I've sampled is the North Star m192 mk2. I've sold all my other DAC's, this is the only one I own now. The soundstage is absolutely huge - real, 3D, holographic,...
the best, cost-no-object, music streamer?
What does "apple app compatibility" mean? The Slim Devices aka Logitech Transporter is the absolute best streaming media product out there. I use mine with my FLAC audio collection and it works brilliantly. There is a controller app available for i...
New Logitech Squeezebox Touch
Yes its true Logitech is killing the Squeezebox architecture. Not a single original Slim Devices employee remains at Logitech. They've all either been laid off, or left voluntarily. The "trend" being forced upon us nowadays is this concept of "the...
Looking for a small bedroom amp
@ReubentThanks for the tip, this Monarchy SM-70 Pro will fit the bill perfectly!!
Parasound 1500A amp extremely hot even at idle?
I'm not familiar with that model, but if it's running in Class A mode, it'll be hot all the time regardless of load.
Kimber 8TC or NBS King/Serpent speaker cables
8TC is where it's at.
OK I'm sold on interconnects, now speaker cable?
Kimber 8TC is my favorite.
Balanced or Unbalanced?
The whole point to balanced connections is noise rejection, yes? So what if your listening environment has very low RFI / EMI noise to begin with? And all your cable lengths are short (1M max), and all your cables are shielded?I don't see the valu...
Long Run From Computer to Stereo
Nothing wrong with long audio cable lengths, provided you're using balanced differential signaling. I'm not familiar with the sound card you're using, but there are pro audio PCI cards out there that provide balanced differential outputs.
Recommend a small tube amp for bedroom use?
Thanks all for the suggestions, I've got my eye on the Decware SE84C+ at the moment...
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
I drive my Porsche 911 on the weekends, for fun. Fabulous car.During the week, I drive a VW Passat TDI. With the TDI motor, it gets nearly 50 miles per gallon! Helps me save money to buy more hifi gear! ;-)
DC Metro -- New
Looks like I'm a little late to the party, but I'm in Rosslyn and would be interested in participating in DC Area audio club events.
Ideal speakers for Cary SLI-80?
Just another comment about using the Taylo Reference's with the SLI-80; there's WAY more power here than can be used. Even with SLI-80 in Triode mode, I have the volume dial only 1/4 up and it's more than enough to fill my 750 sq/ft living room (w...
Ideal speakers for Cary SLI-80?
Cruz123, I decided to go with the Taylo Reference from Tyler Acoustics. Brilliant product (and wow are they heavy!!). Also, Ty was very friendly and great to speak with. I'd buy from him again in a heartbeat.
Imac to my dac- sounds awful?
I assume you're using the toslink optical output on the iMac? Check to be sure you're actually importing the songs using the codec you've selected (apple lossless). Maybe something as simple as dirty CD's?I have a 2005 Powerbook G4 and playing App...
