Turntable
Having purchased the Eclipse/Condor combo and having substituted it for the motor assembly in my $8K turntable I agree the upgrade is well worth it.

VARIAC: Procedure??? 2 old 30 wpc tube amps, unused for 4 years
One simple solution is to use an inrush current limiter.  You just plug your amplifier into it and flip the switch.  Maximum voltage is applied in about 15 seconds.  I purchased mine at sigtomics.com, however I see that website is no longer active...
Free Shipping - Be Careful!
Like many others, I have had the best luck with USPS.  From my experience UPS has been the worst in terms of badly roughed up boxes with holes and tears in them upon arrival.  Sometime, just watch how the UPS truck drives through your neighborhood...
Ric Ocasek dead at 75
Always liked The Cars, great upbeat cruising music.  Their records were often of audiophile quality from the get go, with remasters being only slightly better than the originals, if that.  I never did hear their last studio album, Move Like This, ...
LTA Ultralinear vs SET amps

It is a fine arm and has a feature that allows you tilt the arm to refine the azimuth, which I consider to be an important feature. I did not specifically seek out that arm, it came with the TT purchase and has been reported by others to be an ide...

I was a subscriber of SR in the ’60s and early ’70s. Julian Hirsch, whose column was featured in every issue, did a great disservice to the budding audiophile community of the ’60s by repeatedly promoting solid state amplification over vacuum tube...

Thank you 4Track. I did not know there were separate records for the soundtrack and for the recording sessions.  The only vinyl I have seen is the two record set RCA VCS-7064. This appears to be the recording session and not a movie soundtrack, wh...
Takedown of pricey servers, streamers OCD HiFi guy

Takedown of pricey servers, streamers OCD HiFi guy
As someone who knows very little about streamers and servers I found the video informative on the sort of basic level needed to begin looking. Thank you for posting this.

Whats your favourite track to play to the non hi-fi visitor?
Thelma Houston and Pressure Cooker, RR-2 have been mentioned a couple of times.  I have two copies and would sell one if anyone is interested. $10 plus shipping.  Play graded as excellent.
Whats your favourite track to play to the non hi-fi visitor?
This is an odd one but in the late '60s Jerry Garcia and Howard Wales made an album of music that is hard to describe or classify, at least for me, as it is a mix of several genres.  The album was called "Hooteroll" and there is one cut on the alb...
