Snofun3, I guess that's the only possible answer.

How do I smooth out violins?
I once emailed Cardas regarding my harsh and forward sounding system and they recommended one of their cables that would make my system more laid-back. The reply was signed by George. (I assume G. Cardas).I'll bet he is very familiar with these si...
The Red Green Tinnitus reducer
There are many acupuncture points in the ear. There is a point to reduce pressure in your head along with dizzyness.A possible explaination?I do squeeze these points for medical reasons, but never tried it during listening sessions.
Recommendation for analog set for $700
Good advice from Chayro regarding not to buy vintage. A Rega P3 is a very good start, but only buy from a trusted source such as an original owner or dealer. Don't buy an Ebay special that has been passed around. If you want to compare tables agai...

I'm not familiar with it, but from the photo it looks like it might need suspension adjustments...maybe someone else can answer this question. The PROJECT DEBUT CARBON looks like an easy to use TT. The "plug and play" TTs have a flat base with a m...
Recommendation for analog set for $700
You dont need to get a suspension table, there are plenty of set it and forget it TTs. The Rega RP1 and RP3 and Music Hall are sold ready to go with cart installed.Speed is not a problem with these entry level tables. You would need to replace the...
How do I smooth out violins?
"The CD player is fairly new (well-reviewed recently), and it is actually a CD5004 (not the CD3000,my goof), so I think it will stay at least for a while until I can eliminate other components."That's good to hear. Anyway, this thread was a wild r...
top Mahler on vinyl
I think Lenny's 1960s cycle with NPO is among the best. Buy vinyl since the CD sonics are not great. Abbado's cycle is very good, but if you can find any Barbirolli on LP, definitely grab it.

Some very good suggestions and I agree that you should have a reference CD. That said, when I mentioned earlier that I changed my cables, it was the final step to my system. I agree with those who say start at the source which is your CDP and next...

Google Needle Doctor. It's a good source to see what TTs are available for any budget.

Do you have a HiFi shop nearby? They would be able to put together a package deal; TT, cart, and phono preamp. If buying used, of course condition is important, but also consider the possible damage during shipping. ie: suspension TTs do not travel...
How do I smooth out violins?
I find your question interesting in that I listen to classical music exclusively on a modest system. I too found the sound of violins too harsh. I made two changes; I switched to a tube preamp using some great NOS tubes that rolled off the highs a...
Does it matter which component I power up first?
I know all about the power on/off sequence and have heard the "thump" in my systems, but what about the manufacturers of high power SS amps who recommend leaving them on 24/7? (even with a tube preamp).
