Electrical Ground to Water Pipe, No Earth Ground
Same in my area, Jea48, no need to notify the city. The electrician removed the old ground wire from the water pipe, drilled and installed a copper grounding rod and that was it. I think of this as electrical service maintenance to my property.
Preamp questions for new vinyl fan
It's going to be tough, if not impossible to find a tube preamp with a phonostage in the $500 ballpark. The Consonance is a nice unit, but is old enough to possibly need some maintenance. If you know the history of the Consonance or if you can see ...
Room treatment
These are very affordable and attractive panels usually hung at 1st reflection points, behind listening area, and sometimes in combination with bass traps...http://www.acoustimac.com/acoustic-panels/?pid=5&gclid=Cj0KEQjwlYqoBRDajuaTvsyq1PQBEiQ...
Vinyl Record Cafe's
Check out the TT and cart they're using and bring your back-up vinyl. (clean the pops out of them or you'll really have some splaining to do)."what are those noises? my ipod doesn't do that"
Vinyl Record Cafe's
Great way to go, as long as there is some music they're familiar with. If they're 20 some things, it's a tough call.

And definitely don't bore them with tales about the old days of record cutting. :)

I would hope that the younger generation who has only listened to MP3s on ipods or computer audio would be able to hear the difference. In a cafe setting like this where you play an LP for one of these youngsters, the SQ of the music should be evid...
First Turntable Advice
My 2 cents... good description by Pani; plus the cartridge will be a major impact on the sound. And as far as the Rega RP3 mentioned above, I think you will be very disappointed in this budget table when compared to the fine RP6 or the VPI Scout.
SACD & other Formats
Haven't heard the Cambridge Audio Azur 752BD, but it's marketed as a home theater deck. That tells me it's built to be all purpose, but not specialize in any one format. I don't think this is the path to take for superior sound.Zd's list raises my...
How quiet is your Rogue Sphinx?
The Sphinx is an entry level model, so I wonder if Mark would do any mods to it. With the Magnum models he upgrades the caps, power supply and adds cardas wiring.Food for thought.
Equalizers - don't listen to the nay sayers
Broadstone, how was the learning curve on the Behringer for an analogue guy?
How quiet is your Rogue Sphinx?
Mapman, no contest between the Pharaoh and the Sphinx. The Pharaoh measures up to Rogue's high-end gear. You won't hear any complaints about hum passing thru the balance control. lol.
SACD & other Formats
More of the classical labels have become committed to Hybrid SACD, so they will be here for a while. As for rock/pop, we all know the cd is dying a slow death.
SACD & other Formats
Although I'm all-in with Redbook (ARC CD 3 mk II), it's been said by many members and reviewers that it's hard to find a standalone CD/SACD deck that plays both formats equally at high quality SQ. The one that is always recommended is the ModWrigh...
SACD & other Formats
The digital recording and mastering technology has improved to a much higher level since you were buying CDs (especially Redbook). However, there have been many negatives along the way; have you heard of the "Loudness Wars?" This came about due to...
