Better tubes than factory installed tubes on the Rogue Audio Perseus Magnum Preamplifier
First of all, are you using a tube or SS amp? And do you still own Focal speakers? For tube recommendations, it depends on the characteristics of the sound you seek. As a former Perseus Magnum owner, Amperex will provide an airy top-end with great ...
The best separates between $2500-3000. Moving on from the original Rogue Sphinx Intg..
Jim, will you be using the GoldenEar Triton Sevens? And do you want all SS, or are you open to a tube pre with a SS amp?
Considering buying a CD transport
Thanks infection. I made a revision to my post.
Considering buying a CD transport
It looks like you are using Coax from your transport to your Bryston DAC.Have you tried different cables? Different brands and length of digital cables can impact the sonics dramatically. And I think you may get better results if you were using a C...
Rogue Cronus Magnum (hum/noise)
The OP has been experiencing transformer hum, not a problem from mains power such as a ground loop. And removing the ground on an amp should not be used as a fix, it's a good way to diagnose a problem.
Fog on New recordings
I have noticed that vocals are more "in the mix" these days. It used to be vocals were mixed more up front.Even with remasters, the vocals are less up front compared to the original. But this might be due to high compression. This may be unrelated ...
Purist Audio Dealers
The Cable Company is the largest dealer where you can try and  buy. If you are on their "frequent flyer program," it can save you money.
Good CDs Bad Recording
@ahendler True, but it took time and money to get those recordings to sound good.
Good CDs Bad Recording
The digital recordings from the 80s on DG. Over-miked, harsh and clipped highs, orchestra lacked a sense of space. Worst offender was Karajan since he liked to take control of the production.
Linear Power Supply for a DAC
Thanks everybody.@photonman, I see you did some research on power supplies as well, but the Uptone is beyond my budget.I've seen many good units from the UK; MCRU, Paul Hynes, Sbooster, but so far I like the Teddy. He goes into detail about his fi...
PSU's for an Acoustic Revive RR-888 (or RR-777or RR-77)?
@louisl O/P: DC 12V 1AThat says to me that the wall-wart takes your AC from the wall, converts it to DC, and has 1 amp DC available to power your AR RR-888. I’ve found that often when buying an aftermarket linear power supply, the numbers won’t ex...
PSU's for an Acoustic Revive RR-888 (or RR-777or RR-77)?
I have been researching Linear PSUs for my DAC and can offer you some suggestions. First, check the specs of your unit; it's 12V, but you need to know it's amperage. You can use a power supply with slightly higher amps, because the RR-888 will onl...
COAX Cable length 1.5 meters
Very nicely explained, Al. Thank you. In the case of the cable I have been reading about, it seems as though the manufacturer in Japan decided on a 1.3m length when it was added to their product line. All of which is why I have said in a number of ...
Rare and non-heavy advertised Ribbon \ Foil cables?
Grover Huffman Cables. The Empress ICs use ribbons and sound open and transparent with smooth highs. There is also a trial period.http://www.groverhuffman.com/
Linear Power Supply for a DAC
Thanks for the replies.steakster, not really interested in a DIY project.I've been reading the UK audio forums where there is a lot of talk about Chord DACs, and the Teddy Pardo and Paul Hynes are highly rated. Many people are using TeraDak (Chine...
