ARC CD3mk2
I went trough this a couple of months ago. I compared a number of players including the ARC CD5. In the end I chose to buy a used very late Ref CD7. I felt it was better than the CD5 and much better than the CD3 mk2. It was also cheaper than a ne...
Old Question, any new responses? Logans and tubes
I have owned my SL3s since 1997 and I have tried a lot of different amps with them. They really need 90 to 100 wpc to be driven well. I have tried a 50 wpc amp and they sounded all closed in and a little distorted. They were pushing the amp into ...
Old Question, any new responses? Logans and tubes
You need around 100 wpc to drive the SL3s well. I was using a ARC VT100 to drive mine and it was a good combination. I tried a VS60 and it would not drive them at all. I have also tried bi amping them with two VT100s and this made an improvement ...
Audio Research VT200 MK1 and speaker connections
It does not really matter, which ever sounds better in your system. I have tried both the 4 and 8 ohm taps for my SL3s and ended up using the 8 ohm taps. But I really did not hear that much difference.
Windows Media Player
Use Exact Audio Copy (EAC) to rip the CD and create a cue sheet. Then just burn a CDR with EAC using the cue sheet. You will have an exact bit for bit copy of the original. You can download EAC free from their website. Windows Media Player is wor...
Top of the line old technology VS Newer technology
That is hard to say. I still have an old California Audio Labs Delta and Sigma II that I bought in the early 1990s. some years ago I replace the Delta transport with a Theta Jade and that made a big difference. Eventually the Jade stopped working...
playing cdr's
I own an Audio Research Ref CD7 and it has no trouble playing CD-Rs. I also have a CAL Delta transport that plays my CD-Rs. My old Theda Jade played CD-Rs. I would think that almost all CD players and transports made in the last 10 years play CD-...
Audio Research Amp/Pre matching
Until very recently I used a VT100 MK3 with my LS25 mk2. This is a very nice combination, the LS25 is an excellent preamp. I have owned an LS2 and my LS25 is in another league it is so much better. When I do upgrade it will be to either a Ref 3 ...
pc vs mac, eac vs itunes
I used EAC and created a cue and sfv. Actually if I did it again I would probably create maybe 1 0r 2% par files instead of the sfv. Ripped with EAC and the offsets properly set up you have an exact bit for bit copy. So much so that I can then us...
Help me solve static electricity problem
It is because of the air being so dry in your home. I use a ultrasonic humidifier in the winter when it is really dry. Get one without the replaceable filter if possible. I also touch the side of the stand before I touch one of my components, just...
A. R. Ref3 and Aesthetix Atlas 12v trigger ????
Both my ARC LS25 mk2 and Ref 110 have the 12v triggers. I thought about using it but changed my mind. I am not sure that having the preamp and amp (tube amp) turn on at the same time is a good idea. I think it is better to turn them on one at a ti...
Noob Planar Speaker Advice Needed
A tube amp would be my first choice with any electrostatic speakers. Tubes with electrostats tend to have a very nice mid range. I own SL3s and until very recently used a Audio Research VT100 mk3 to drive them. This is a very nice combination. I r...
Need help/advice on choosing a new CDP
Speakers can make a huge difference in the sound of a system. If at all possible compare things in a system as close to yours as possible. I was in the same situation as you awhile back. I wanted a new player because my was beginning to have probl...
Need help/advice on choosing a new CDP
You should try to borrow the CD players you are interested in so that you can listen to them in your system. If you listen to different players in different systems you have no way of knowing how much the CD player is contributing to the sound. A...
Audio Research VT100, MKii and MKiii
I have listened to both the mk 2 and mk3 versions and I have owned the mk3. Stay away from the mk1. The mk 2 and mk3 sound a little bit different. But I would not say there is a big difference. The mk3 is a little more detailed but maybe not quite...
