max length of toslink or coaxial digital cable without signal degradation?
opinions vary, but the majority view is that optical is better over long distances--less prone to emi/rf interference. if you think about it, carriers use fiber optic to connect between cities and countries.
Neil Young - Guitarist
very good post by bdp24--i personally don't respond to guitarists like clapton or eddie van halen who are more about technique than "musicality," the mind-boggling richard thompson being the exception. as for neil young, i believe he's got better ...
New to Digital
the first thing i'd do is upgrade to spotify premium ($10/mo.) or tidal ($20/mo.), which have much better libraries and sq than amazon music. next, instead of your bluetooth receiverĀ  i would get a google chromecast ($35), which uses wifi, and con...
I, Tonya Soundtrack
agree on the soundtrack--thought the movie was great as well
Marantz DV6400 vs...?
good deal
Spotify goes public. What will it mean for music lovers?
i tend to agree with willemj---based on demand (and tidal's apparently very shaky status) i don't see they have much incentive to get into hirez. the larger question to me is whether spotify can ever make real money--subscribers are very cost-sens...
Marantz DV6400 vs...?
i believe on the marantz that sacd is only played thru the 5.1 connections, not the regular 2 ch output, so your player is probably playing just the regular cd layer of your sacds--try the 5.1 connection and see if it makes a difference.
Emotiva T1 Towers - Audiophile Quality or Just Home Theatre Towers?
i've only heard their airmotiv bookshelf model, which i believe has the same tweeter--they were bright and energetic but very detailed and very good value, if not as audiophile refined/neutral as pricier stuff. i do note that for whatever reason e...
70's Receiver and/or Integrated Amp recommendations
for 70s stuff i'm partial to pioneer (sa9100, sa9800) and kenwood (krxx00, kaxx00). if you dip into the early 80s, i think tandberg (2055, 2075) and luxman (rx series) were more refined and sounded a little better, with particulaqrly good tuners a...
Anyone streaming at 320kbps? If so...
i use 320kb spotify after auditioning tidal--tidalĀ  sounds better, though the difference was not so huge as to trascend spotify's superior library, interface, etc. + lower price. in my home systems i'm streaming from my phone through a chromecast ...
What Do You Think Of This?
from long experience i agree with the take-your-lumps-and-move-on advice. if in fact your buyer is an unreasonable schmuck, he'll remain so notwithstanding your fretting and fuming about the injustice of it all, and all you'll do is get more agita...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
i literally haven't listened to climax blues band in 30+ years, but was tweaked by the above to give 'em a listen--a few of their songs (rich man, couldn't get it right) are still insinuated in my brain, which i suppose is the sign of good music.
What's your thought on that
good deal--enjoy
What's your thought on that
if your tablet does wifi, get a google chromecast audio, which sounds significantly better than bluetooth, esp. if you use an external dac
CD Player used as transport
i was surprised to find much more audible difference between different transports than between different (mid-tier dacs). i will leave to the experts whether it's due to different circuitry, jitter or other technicalia, but the differences can be ...
