What's in your CDP tonight? the minority report
bdp24, thanks for the twilley post--i'm a massive fan of sincerely and twilley don't mind. his  third record, "twilley," which is almost impossible to find except on vinyl, was also pretty great, with a couple of his best tunes. his later stuff wa...
Schiit Audio (or other) DAC Recommendations
mcjeljo, i haven't heard the gaincell dac, tho its very well-reviewed and i have heard the matching s300 power amp, which was very good. now, you're talking about dropping 3 grand for the pair, as opposed to 400 or so for a standalone dac, so quer...
Samsung flat screen TV’s
my 10 year old samsung lcd still works fine, tho i had to replace some failed capacitators right after the one-year warranty expired (a widespread problem which apparently triggered a class action). my lg tvs, otoh, have been flawless. fwiw, a cou...
Barn speakers
i heard the marshall tufton, which is a portable bluetooth speaker--no built in bottle opener but sounds really good, with lots of bass and supposedly has 20 hr battery life--you can lug it to where you need it and use it at home when you're not o...
Cleaning house ~ Completely unclear on values if any
you should be able to get $150 or so on ebay for the rotel amp...you haven't specified a model for the cdp, but some of the older rotels like the 855 and 955 have a following and should likewise go for around $150--whether that's worth the effort ...
Schiit Audio (or other) DAC Recommendations
until recently i used the d2 in my office system and it's quite a capable piece; however the smsl su9 (around $400) was a clear upgrade, as was the chord mojo (around $500)
NHT SuperZero vs Polk S10 vs HTM-200 SE vs RSL CG3
haven't heard all your choices, but it's hard to go wrong with the superones--they're very big-sounding for such a little speaker and quite muscial
Bolting speaker with stand
per crn i'd just get longer screws--they look like pretty standard allen machine screws. agree the originals should've fit, but this seems like a small deal in the scheme of things.
Upgrading entry level system
i've heard your jbls and liked them--i'd look to upgrade your receiver first. rotel, cambridge and audiolab all make well-reviewed integrated amps with streaming capabilities and phono for less than a grand which would be worth checking out.
SMSL SU-9 DAC - Is it a budget alternative fit for an audiophile ?
i reviewed the su-9 for my headphone blog (audioreviews.org) and came away damn impressed--as per jbhiller, great bass control and great at low volumes; also a great sounding preamp and bluetooth streamer. my only quiblles, literally, were that it...
Best Bang for your Buck DAC ?
the smsl su-9 at around $400 is an extremely impressive piece--great sounding dac + preamp w/remote + bluetooth streamer. numerous connectivity/tuning options.
Need some advice, Vincent Audio
i used to own the 236, which i stupidly sold on impulse. really outstanding integrated and a great value at around a grand used-- it was very full bodied but detailed.
Sub-$1250 DAC w/ built-in Headphone Amp
the chord mojo is awfully impressive for $500
Beginner Looking For Set Up Advice!
the ps audio sprout is a very good rec for you--it's got a phone stage, dac, etc. and is the kind of piece you'll always find a use for. its small size (and price) are big plusses. the outlaw 2150 or 2160 is also a keeper esp. if you can find one ...
Radio Paradise to Stream MQA to Blue OS
i'm not anti-mqa and it does sound better, though truth be told so little material is available on mqa that i wouldn't bother with upgrading my gear just to get it. however, rp is fantastic (and free), so i'm all for anything that broadens is base...
