An Objective Review of the Tekton Double Impact Speakers
i actually heard the double impacts for the first time a couple of weeks ago--they’re neither as bad nor as transcendent as its detractors/fanboys claim. big sounding, good imaging and lots of detail. tight, not overbearing low end. high end sound...
Ridiculous resale price of vintage equiment
selling prices of the sought-after 70's stuff (sansui, marantz, pioneer) have probably doubled in the last ten years or so, probably driven by the resurgence of interest in vinyl. considering that many  of these pieces are now 50 years old, look g...
Buying refurbished gear....
my understanding is that most refurbished gear from reputable merchants is new stuff which was returned either because the buyer changed his mind or couldn't figure out how to operate. my experiences with a4less have all been positive, tho i've no...
Naim Audio system owners - What speakers are you using with Naim?
naim speakers sound great with naim amps--i've owned the arrivas (which sounded very ordinary with other front ends) and the sbls and the synergy was really something to behold.
Who uses ADS Speakers
i've owned the 1290 (good but very sensitive to pairing), the 710 (great tweeter) and the 780 (vg but not as good as the 710). the real gem was the L470, which i found for tenbucks at a yard sale--amazing clarity and surprisingly deep, tight bass ...
Best DAC under 1000 that has BT 5 and XLR with coax, USB, Ethernet
Smsl su9
new Allison Krause & Robert Plant Pressing seems noisy
good record, but not as good as "raising sand"--material is a bit more uniformly downcast + no amount of studio craft can obscure the fact that plant's voice is wearing out
Kyrocera Home Audio
kyocera stopped making audio gear around 1989, but their stuff was really, really good--they were sort of the japanese mcintosh, with much better build quality than the plastic junk trotted out by their peers. i still have their 861 receiver and a...
Laptop to Parasound P6 Digital Input
it doesn't look like your computer has an optical out, so you need a usb to optical converter, which you can get for as little as $25 on amazon
CD player recommendations
i agree with mahler--you'd be better off to keep you cdps as transports and add an external dac--you can get a topping or smsl w/balanced outs for less than $500 which will likely outperform the inboard dacs on most $1500 cdps.
Wanted: Recommendations for an integrated amp for Celestion SL-600 speakers!
Amazing find. They need alot of high current power...perhaps one of the better rega?
Advise for new speakers for my basement exercise room
Polk audio model 10 or ads 1290
Considering ditching 5.1 for a soundbar; suggestions?
auditioned a bunch of soundbars with a coworker and wound up with the yamaha yas-208 for around $200--it sounded a lot better than many of the pricier ones we heard
Lightweight tablet suggestions
i use an 8" kindle fire for my kitchen system--you can pick one up for 70 bucks or so. good interface; wifi or bluetooth streaming works fine
Anyone here using vintage speakers?
i'm still listening to my ads L470s, which cost me (no kidding) $5 at a garage sale. excellent clarity and surprisingly deep, tight bass for such little boxes. likewise, my polk monitor 10b has outlasted innumerable others  and remains one of the ...
