Those magical days when the HVAC is off
My whole apartment is on a single, 20A breaker.  When I added a Ametek Powervar 8.3 my audio was way cleaner, and the background was black (silent).  It did not make my music clinical, which I've heard people complain about with some "audiophile" ...
I Sold my CD Player!!! Streaming sounds so incredible!!!
Cool!  What model was your old CD-player?
Help - is Krell dead?
Was Rondi D'Agostino any relation to John D'Agostino of SAE / GAS fame?
Cd Source for my system
https://forum.audiogon.com/posts/2716162 Why would you say a pre-amplifier should not make a difference?  Generally, sources have weak line-level output.  This is not always an issue, but I've always preferred the ability to crank the power ampli...
so bass traps in corners do nothing, it seems we have been fooled. or are being fooled.
The last time I read about bass traps was on Decware's site.  But Mr. Deckert actually has a studio to test his stuff out so I believe him.
Is It Worh Modding An Amp
In my opinion this would depend on what is behind it.  You'll notice dramatic changes in sound be modding your source (if necessary) as well as any pre-amplification you may be using.  But modding the power amplifier should be the last on the list...
Audio Cables: All the Same?
What: no mic-drop, CHILD?                         (snort of derision) I don't... I don't understand.  I'm not defending nor nay-saying.
I want to buy new speakers for 50,000 and see it used for 30,000, what should I do?
I'm more concerned about whether the rest of your system warrants these speakers.  Are they a good match to the rest of your rig?
Audio Cables: All the Same?
In audio we have to deal with all the laws of electricity, and impedance can also come into play.  But there are varying degrees of people arguing about cables making a difference.  Usually, it's a comparison of materials.  For instance, individua...
Is there a clear definition of what "Integrated" means?
I've always viewed Integrated amps as essentially the predecessors to receivers, because we used to use external tuners.  I think the inclusion of a pre-amplification stage as a qualifier is debatable as a pre-amplifier typically came just before ...
You're not a true audiophile unless...
The term has pretty much been lost to a universal assignment addressing people with more money than brains.  I prefer to consider myself a musicphile because I just do what any actual audiophile should do, and listen to what sounds good to me.  Bu...
Has a Power Conditioner Improved Your Sound?
Years ago my Paps used to go to the same phone repair guy for all his needs.  He sent my Paps home with what he thought was a broken UPS.  So Dad said I could have it if I wanted to try and fix it.  I opened it up later and saw the huge transforme...
HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR SYSTEM IN LESS THAN 30 SECONDS
Obligatory mention of Alan Parsons Project - Turn of a Friendly Card, Tales of Mystery and Imagination, and I Robot albums, just to name a few.  Fantastic!
Least expensive plug-in power conditioner that works
I wouldn't waste my time with power conditioners marketed towards audiophiles.  But I'm glad people do so that the ones I want are more readily available.  Search your local craigslist for an Ametek unit, a PowerVar conditioner.  They make them in...
A Sanely Priced Power Conditioner That Actually Works - OnFilter PDU
Just here to say my second-hand Ametek Powervar (medical version) made my headphone rig cleaner and quieter, but my whole apartment is on a single circuit so.
