Center Channel to go with Snell E/III
These already sold, but watch for a pair to pop up here or on ebay:http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?spkrfull&1108183478
I Am At Your Mercy
You have a fairly large room. Depending on your taste for bass, you may need to think larger when it comes to speakers. Try a pair of Snell D's. You can find them for 600-700, a ridiculous value. The McCormack amps would be a nice choice. If you're...
Concrete or Wood floor in listening room?
You'll feel more bass with a suspended floor above the concrete. Depending on the size of the room, and the speakers used, you could be fine either way.
Which pre/pros have high output?
In all likelyhood, you are approaching unity gain with your preamp volume at 2 or 3 o'clock. This is a good thing. Try a preamp with too much gain and you'll hate it. Volume is too touchy for subtle adjustments. As long as you can always get to a ...
Introducing Tubes?
Everone forgot the Anthem Cd-1, a suprb choice on the used market.
Speaker Choice for a larger room
The Snell B Minors that just did NOT sell on ebay would work wonderfully. 1k, a ridiculously good speaker.
amp for infiinity kappa 9
One more bit of bad news: Infinity is not supporting these with replacement drivers any longer. On the plus side, the midrange performance is outstanding.
amp for infiinity kappa 9
I owned the Kappa 8 years ago. The eMit tweeter is ruthless, and the Threshold was a good recommendation. You need gobs of quality power and current.
Listening to my HD650's, a sobering experience...
It's always about the room to a larger degree than most people discuss. You may never match the headphones in your room. You have to be able to accept that. Then all will be well....
Is a pre/pro considered digtal or analog ?
Noble:You said the sound is better using your CDP through the analog inputs of your processor. Is it good enough? There is the big question. B&K makes nice equipment for the money - usually very smooth, at the expense of some dynamics/detail/i...
starting out....wicked budget
What is it about the sound of your system that you don't like? Depending on the Sound Dynamics speakers you have, you may be in good shape for a budget system. What is the "old SS amp"?
Classe 101 vs. McCormack DNA125: opinions?
Actually, the Classe doesn't sound like a weak 100 watt amp until you reach the lower registers. But I can't live without bass :)A strong 100-150 watt amp would be fine with me, but I do miss the effortless presentation of my old Threshold S500.....
Is a pre/pro considered digtal or analog ?
Noble: it's obvious that your CDP has superior dacs /and or analog output stages compared to the B&K, OR jitter is the problem. The thing that disturbes me is that many folks have moved to pre/pros and are using the onboard DACs in the process...
Quit vinyl?
The Rotel 1070 pre is stupid good for 500 list, and includes a phono input. It's not the last word in resolution in stock form, but once modified it will let you ignore 2k preamps with glee.
Good Low Level Resolution Speakers under $2K used.
Try the Rotel RC 1070 preamp with its nifty contour control. It makes low level listening a joy.
