Quad 989/2905 all around qualities
I have heard 2905 and 2805...i prefer 2905 for its fuller sound and bass...perhaps not as seamless as 2805, but very good. I actually preferred Guarneri Homage to both...in a direct several hour session. Some old hands in audio were there and supp...

Hi happy to share thoughts offline in more detail. i would say SF Grands can sound special but only when set up right...Krell Evo402 was the only time i heard this and was quite shocked. The Homage series are closer to the sound you seek...but mor...
Quad 989/2905 all around qualities
Hi Katamapah,You've done your homework. Quads really are special. As you already know, they just dont play super loud and their bass could be stronger. The new 2805s/2905s will play louder and lower from what i am told. will be interesting to hear...

Need advice on CJ preamps
i owned the pv14l...on its own, it is a warm, smooth pre...but in comparison to ARC Ref 3 or the later CJs, there is a clear fuzziness...i would def go with Bob Backert to mod it.

B&W 801D or 802Ds
Dave 72there is a review of the 802D in one of the audio mags this month. HiFi+? The 802D is featured on the cover of the magazine so it shouldn't be hard for you to find it.
XLR to RCA Adapters
If you are going RCA to XLR because you like the 2 components, then many people would say reterminate your RCA cable on one end...in order to get rid of the adaptor. As for SE vs Balanced, yes many people feel there is inherent superiority of Bala...
XLR to RCA Adapters
If you are confident you want the combination, keep your single ended cable and just have the ends going into the amp reterminated with XLRs. it obviously will NOT make this a balanced setup...but you wont have to fuss with adaptors. i have a CJ p...

It is a fine line. I think it is fair to say that "pride of ownership" is something many of us share. We are passionate about our music, our systems and proud of what we have assembled with our systems. Fair play.At what point does pride of owners...
