Preamp upgrade from Audio Mirror PP1- suggestions? Seriously? The Audio Mirror unit was less than $1000 new when I bought it. Pretty modest. My budget is maybe up to $2000 used.Seems like I would be looking at units that are over $3000 street price new.I was thinking I would be at quite another leve...

Sorry for Q- Need help moving to music server. Sorry for the delay in response and thanks to all for responding! I forgot about the lag in a post getting approved by the mods here in Audiogon so was away from the forum for a couple days.Hey Clio09- great to hear from you! I have a story for yo...
Recommendation for small footprint Center channel? No disrespect, but that is not the route he wishes to go.From my experience of actually having a 5.1 system that uses my high end two channel preamp and speakers for L/R-even I want and have a center (RBH 661).It makes a big difference as a dedica...
Recommendation for small footprint Center channel? Appreciate the info-likely out of his price range but I will check.
Mono blocks are better or Stereo power amp? I had a very nice modded Musical Fidelity A300 integrated which had massive separate power supplies for the preamp and amp sections.I now have Odyssey Mono Extremes monoblocks with the same speakers (ACI Jaguars which are a large rather power hung...
Combining different speaker cables for bi-wiring? Interesting thread.I bi-wire with DH Labs and use the 14ga T14 on tweeter and the heavier 10ga Q10 on midbass driver on my ACI Jaguar monitors. This has been recommended by many users in using DH Labs in a bi-wire setup. The wire is the same I beli...
Audio Mirror T61 Parts Question? Email Vlad, he is pretty good guy. I use fast acting 2A fuses in my Audio Mirror PP1 preamp from Radio Shack. Not much to the line stage preamps as far as what to know really.Volume/4 inputs/2 outputs. The input labels on back probably do not match...
Tube dampers? "Doesn't the tape hold heat in?"You have to see it. It is more like very thin ribbon.Caused no heat problems that I was aware of and is apparently a common tweak. It made a positive difference for me on my phonostage.
Tube dampers? I used Teflon tape on my tubes on my Hagerman phono stage.Nice change. You wrap about fifteen times around the middle of the tube. Can buy it at any hardware store for cheap.
Cheap and powerful pre/power combo $1k budget Look at a used Odyssey Stratos Plus (around $650-750 depending on how old), and a moderate level tube preamp used. You should be around $1000.Good Luck.
Most Quiet TUBE Preamp. Linestage. $ 12K or less Should be easy to find. I just bought an Audio Mirror PP1 tube preamp/phono stage for less than 10% of your budget. It is quiet as a mouse unless I stick my ear up to the Scanspeak tweeter of my ACI Jaguar monitors.Sounds very good also. For $12,000...
What happened to all the tube amps? Call Paul Weitizel at Tube Reserach Labs. They may still be willing to build you one of their $150,000 tube amps.Is that great enough for you?
Good remote controled, used preamps out there. I am getting a new Audio Mirror PP1 preamp this week with a well regarded MM/MC phono stage and line stage in one unit.It is a tube unit if that matters.Has remote.Quite good user feedback and under your pricepoint new ($899).Will report back how ...
best bang for the buck tube preamp? I recently went through a search for a reasonably priced tube preamp.Ended up getting an Audio Mirror PP1.Audio Mirror also makes a linestage only (T61)that is a little above your pricerange new, but gets rave reviews. Also, this looks interesting:... |
