From one experiment to the next...
Ok, so here's where things are... I'm about six days into a Schiit Aegir. It's a great amp, without question. But, oddly enough, it's sound signature is almost identical to my Nuforce STA200. It might have a hair more bass; frankly, my wife and I ...
Pulling myself out of old, broken equipment, one hesitant step at a time...
@schteveuhn I ended up surrendering the speakers to the repair shop. Four or five drivers needed repair, and I don't know how much more life I could have expected from the remaining cones and surrounds, voice coils, etc... etc... I ended up going ...
Class D is just Dandy!
@guidocorona I neglected to "follow" this thread, until now, so I’m just getting around to your question... In terms of power, the Moabs are rated to handle up to 900wpc. I’ve run 80wpc and now I’m running 300wpc with an XTZ A2-300. The 80wpc woul...
Class D is just Dandy!
@arctikdeth I want to invite you to take a particular (Class D) amp you have auditioned and give us a clear evaluation of your experience. I've had my first class D amp for about ten days and I have a very hard time equating your summary point or ...
Class D is just Dandy!
Thanks for the reflections that might help me dial in my speakers/system from an amplification angle. So, this is where I am (1): just bought and have been using the XTZ A2-300, which runs off IcePower. Amazingly, the sound signature is NOT much d...
switching between two amplifiers; issues of power
@boomerbillone - your post is appreciated... maybe I should have opted for the 800wpc d-sonic, given your spirited claims. I will have the new 300wpc amp for a 30-day trial, so we will see how it goes. Should be here Thursday and I will definitely...
Anthem is on sale ...
I should also ask, @macnet427 , how does the MCA 225 compare to your bryston amplifiers?
Anthem is on sale ...
I appreciate the feedback, @macnet427. I'm wondering how you are assessing the SQ of the amp, if the basement acoustics are horrible... seems like a natural follow-up, here...

Can any of you comment on the sound quality of the MCA amps? Are they a good value for money?
switching between two amplifiers; issues of power
Yes, my use of high nineties was for projection out of windows into my backyard. With alleged 98db speakers, I didn't think this would be a problem (for the Nuforce), but it did heat up (considerably) over the hour... Within the 12x14.5 room of pr...
switching between two amplifiers; issues of power
@tomic601 That's interesting... Mrdecibel convinced me to stay away from the Job, suggesting it would have similar difficulty, owing to the low impedance of my speakers, dropping down to 3.1 ohms, according to claims by one owner of Tekton Moabs. ...
switching between two amplifiers; issues of power
@millercarbon So, the first amp is the lovely STA200, outputting 80wpc, and I've got it pushing a 4ohm nominal, down to 3.1 load. The amp does fine at modest volumes. I've been posting about this, from a variety of angles, for the past several wee...
switching between two amplifiers; issues of power
Very helpful. Many ways to cause damage with wires floating between amps in the power "on" position, although technically no harm arises in having the amps on without interconnects.
Class D is just Dandy!
So, I’ve been pondering and studying class D, from the layman’s perspective (I’m no electrical engineer, can’t solder, can barely find the transformer), for several weeks. I’ve particularly reviewed Wyred4Sound, D-Sonic, Class D Audio, Apollon, No...
Anyone have experience with VTV amplifiers?
Unfortunate. These small-time, likely single operator outfits shoot themselves in the foot by not slowing down and doing good work. They could build good reputations, if they sacrificed a little in the speed department, checked their work, made it...
