Kharma CRM 3.2F vs. Avalon Eidolon and Diamond Now that Focal is touting the newer berylium dome tweeters, does anyone think that Kharma will re-engineer their speakers for the newer generation of tweeters? Also I heard that Focal will soon stop selling raw drivers and concentrate solely on JM...
Opinion of Avalon Speakers or Alternataives Hard to make an informed opinion at the shows. Avalon loudspeakers require an extended break-in, upwards of 700 hrs IMO. I would not expect any show to exhibit an Avalon product that is fully broken-in. Also consider the vagaries of the source com...
Accuphase A-50v OR Goldmund 28m OR Rowland 8TiHC? I have the 75V running straight into the A-50V with Avalon Eidolon Diamonds. Previously I owned Eidolons and a Model 10. The A-50V outperformed the Model 10 in every way imaginable and by a significant margin.
Speakers - Avalon versus Piega????? With Rowland/Accuphase, Avalon is a great match. I have heard Piega's- sound bright compared to Avalons.
Whassup with Accuphase: You mentioned several models, so here is how the redbook performance should be ranked IMO: (1) DP-85 or DP-75v, (3) DP-77, (4) DP-55v, (5) DP-75, (6) DP-65v, (7) DP-65. The top 4 ranked players all use the MDS technology which has been described a...
Best amp for Avalon Eidolon speakers? I owned Eidolons (sold them to move to the Diamonds- BTW, if you like the Eidolon's, listen to the Diamonds but that is a different subject). I started with a Rowland Model 10 and went to an Accuphase A-50V which was astonishing how much better it...
what are your favorite movie soundtracks. Gladiator, Titanic, Batman Returns, Edward Scissorhands, The Mission, Empire of the Sun- I own all of these.
Any comments on Jeff Rowland Design Model 9 I own the Eidolon Diamond (moved up from the Eidolon last year). The Eidolon Diamond, Eidolon and Radian/HC all seem to have the same loading characteristics according to Avalon's website (4 ohms nominal impedence, 3.6 ohms minimum; not sure of ra...
Review: Krell FPB-200 Amplifier I just meant that one would not normally couple Krell with Sony- system seems a bit out of balance IMO. Indeen Blackmore's Night is the one and only Ritchie- links at the Deep Purple homepage.
Jethro Tull recent Remasters vs Mobile Fidelity? Would not put Tull and Yes in the same category as Styx and REO.
Review: Krell FPB-200 Amplifier Krell gear with Sony speakers?! Consider replacing the Sony's as your next upgrade step. Bonus points awarded for Blackmore's night.
Sony DVP-NS999ES vs. Sony DVP-S9000ES I don't have any experience but have heard that the S9000ES is the champion of 2 channel audio for SACD and redbook. Other than that- multichannel audio and video performance, the 999ES outperforms its predecessor handily. There is a review of thi...
Saddended by the death of Maurice Gibb As someone who came to appreciate the Bee Gees very late in their career, I feel very saddened by the loss of Maurice- I am sure his brothers will fold the group (as a studio band) in a tribute to him. Among the three, I don't think anyone knowled...
CD Player - Amp Direct Don't forget Accuphase- probably the best sounding digital gain circuitry.
Analog outputs on Accuphase DP-75v RCA definitely sounds better in most applications (that is with a quality interconnect and reasonable length runs). Refer to Stereophile's original review of the DP-75V of several years ago. Given that your downstream components (either power amp ... |
