Decent 6-8ft phono cable advice needed.
Do I just need standard RCA cables or should I look for more insulation/etc. 3-6 feet should be an acceptable range.  Beyond that,  you could experience some degradation. If you plan on installing the cable in-wall it should be insulated.
Luxman vs Pass Labs
+1 for the Luxman L-590 AX II.  I owned two Luxman receivers back in the '80's prior to Luxman leaving the U.S. audio market.  The first was a R-1120 the last was the R-117by far the better of the two in all respects was the R-1120.  Gifted it to ...
HFC or Akiko?
I have three MC-0.5's (only two installed) and a pair of HFC's Magnetic RCA adapters for my TT tone arm cable.  I have to agree with @ozzy and @jmcgrogan2.  I like the effect the MC-0.5's have on the sound and sound stage.  Especially on the tonea...
Audiophile LP's
Back in the day were current sellers offering these truly superior records just trying a ripoff?Personally, especially in contrast to current day sales and what some record labels are asking for reissues, I don't think so.Case in point: Better Rec...
Term for an LP that is about the quality you'd expect to pull out of a dollar bin?
+1 for @addyson815's link that describes the record grading system.AudiophileUSA uses it: https://www.audiophileusa.com If you frequent used record stores and in particular $1 bins or otherwise unsealed records, be prepared to do some record clean...
For tube sound, which is more important: preamp or power amp?
Preamp - it's all about the signal. The preamp feeds an output signal to the amplifier, which in turn sends it to the speakers.  The amp just provides a higher voltage to drive the speakers. If the preamp distorts the output signal, the amp can't f...
Afforable PC's with EU plugs
I think Patrick Cullen can build you cables with Schuko connectors if that works for you:http://www.cullencable.com/crossover-series-ii/
which 6sn7 gives the most air??
My vote is for a pr. of red base NOS 5692's.
What is an excellent power cable?
I guess my budget is around $500 I'd contact Patrick Cullen: http://www.cullencable.comI just received three of his Gold Series cables (10 AWG).  Patrick's cables are very well made and well within your budget.  I don't think you would be dis...
High End is Dead?
@fleschler  are you in mourning?  Maybe you should switch to coins.  I've sold most of what I had collected (primarily U.S. coins and large currency.)  Helped pay for my audio rig.  I have a few stamps but quite honestly, I could never get into st...
High End is Dead?
" the eccentric stamp collector is likely mourning that this new generation has lost its desire to send communiques ..."Stamp and especially coin collectors probably don't care if there are new ways of communicating or if the U.S. Mint is minting...
Do I need to replace tube socket in my amp?
Upscale Audio in Laverne, Ca. should be able to fix your amp.  Good source for tubes as well.
CD players = dead?
Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.  Yours truly, CD player.
Current, Amperage
Put another way, the more efficient your speaker, the less power is required to drive them. According to the documentation on Focal’s website, recommended amplifier power for your speakers is: 40-250 wattsIsn’t the VTL 2.5 a preamp? What kind of p...
AT ART-9 vs Audio Note IQ3
Can’t speak to the ART-9. I’m running the AN IQ3 on my Nottingham Interspace Jr. with stock arm. At approximately $1200 U.S., I’m not sure if I would consider the IQ3 an "inexpensive" cartridge but then that’s a matter of opinion. Also, the IQ3 is...
