Fleib, I'm fairly certain the Accuphase AC-2 had a sapphire cantilever.

Stylus Drag
The problem I envisage with the timeline is that if there is a regular (emphasis on regular) slowing down and speeding up of the platter between flashes the timeline will show perfect speed where the reality in realtime will be very different....a...

"If there is ANY transmission of these movements into the cartridge body instead of between the magnets/pole pieces" So you're saying that there is NO transmission??? So that the elastomer suspension does a PERFECT job of isolating the cartridge b...

HalcroWhat about needle talk? There's definitely some acoustical energy given off by the needle in the groove...wouldn't there be mechanical energy as well?Where do you think the term 'tone'arm originated? Don't forget the earliest gramophones were...
General comments on SOTA
As far as flattening warped records nothing works like vacuum.I had a Star for many years and ended up using the platter/bearing and vacuum system from it in a diy turntable... the vacuum hold always worked flawlessly (except for really dished rec...

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a 365(or 512) Berlinetta Boxer!
General comments on SOTA
Yes, the Papst motor fitted to the early SOTA tt's was a dc servo motor. Papst also made others such as the external rotor ac (3 phase?) motor fitted to the Empire tt's(amongst others) as well as direct drive motors for Revox (B790). I think Papst...
Sota Sapphire Series III replacement power supply
Up to series III the Sotas used the papst pancake dc motor (different to the external rotor papst as used by empire etc) and I think a well regulated dc supply with anywhere from 24-27vdc should be fine. I don't think the motor draws a lot of curr...
Multi Arm Table
Agree with NandricOne suggestion would be to look for an RS labs arm which has a heavy base that is designed to merely 'sit' on a horizontal surface and does not need any holes to drilled nor glue so you won't damage that lovely acrylic on the Basis.

Dear NandricSorry to say I've been a little busy(lazy??) and am yet to try either the Piezo or the Signet TK7ea I also picked up recently........you guys are a bad(good??)influence:-) I will get around to it eventually but at the moment am making ...
Turntable speed accuracy
LewmDo you think that adding mass to the platter of an existing dd turntable( assuming the spindle bearing is up to the task) could also achieve the same effect as "loosening" the servo response.Perhaps the periphery clamp of the LO7D helps to ach...
Turntable speed accuracy
Albert I'm guessing either the laser mark with the platter having slowed would take longer to traverse a section of wall (unlikely to have slowed enough to make a visible difference IMHO) or perhaps a high frequency flutter is causing the mark to ...
The Mechanic
The tonearm should have been a Mission Mechanic.More than once when I've seen the thread title in the list, for a split second I've thought that the thread is about the Mission tonearm. Not seen one in the flesh but apparently a fairly serious att...
