HDTV newbie seeks wisdom on setup-Thanks
get used to the lousy picture. on a digital tv, regular broadcasts are pixellated and crappy. period. better cables will only make the problem worse on regular broadcasts, because it will show more of the imperfections in the horrible digital sign...
480i,480p,780,1080?
well, to keep things simple:any standard analog tv can receive up to 480i. (i is for interlaced, p is for progressive) hd-compatible tv's can accept 480p, 720p (depending on the tv), and 1080i. the number (ie 480, etc) represents the number of lin...
Do you approve of "How Stereophile Market itself"?
you know, the guy who founded stereophile recently jumped ship and joined TAS because he couldn't stand what stereophile had become.
Is there any such thing as a high end receiver?
i'd go integrated amp as well, and there are LOTS of good choices. if you'd like to stay inexpensive, i'd go rega brio or mira.or if you'd like to stay *really* simple, there's always the linn classik, which is a true high end cd pplayer, preamp, ...
Arcam vs. Rega
i disagree completely with the above. i certainly prefer the jupiter 2k to the arcam, and feel that the planet 2k is superior, as well. i'd be sure to listen before making any choices, though. it all comes down to preference.
Speakers for Rega system
i owned and used rega juras with all-rega electronics for quite a while and they were a wonderful match. rega stuff loves to be paired with rega stuff. i'd go juras for sure. there's usually a pair available here.
Recs for Small Footprint Audiophile System
you could get a linn classik and a pair of tukans. . .
Help with CD player
get a planet 2000 model. worlds better than the original, and better than the 971.
Hum a problem with Planar 25/ Grado cartridge?
dynavector/rega are *great* together. very highly recommended.
Rega Maia / Cursa combo vs. NAD C260 / C160 combo
i used to own a cursa/maia (2k model) combo. they really sound fantastic together, much better than any NAD electronics i've heard!
Record Cleaning - Cartridge Damage
the linn 'sandpaper' is made by 3m. it's green and coarse on one side, not actually sandpaper. from what i understand, most places that carry linn have it. it works quite well.
Rack effects on aktiv equipment
linn aktiv cards *do* require break-in. might just give it a while.
What should I plug my system into?
kdl6769:i use the strip that naim recommends. it's *really* great.for te most part, i agree with all that naim states on the link you mentioned. i think it's well worth a read.
TOTALLY CONFUSED about analog
and also keep in mind that people use rega turntables for years without any of the problems others accuse them of having.
TOTALLY CONFUSED about analog
the regas don't need modification. they sound great right off.
