What are Your Favorite Tweeters?
The tweeter that impressed me the most was one that seemed to not be there at all--it was so smooth and unobtrusive and high frequencies were present without calling attention to their presence.  The tweeter is a G.I.P Laboratories reproduction of...
Compression Titanium Worlds finest tweet ever engineered
I like most planar magnetic speakers too.  Many, such as Magnepans, are quite reasonably priced for the sound they deliver.  Other types of speakers have examples that I like too.  But, all speakers have limitations so it is a matter of different ...
Compression Titanium Worlds finest tweet ever engineered
I've heard many fine examples of compression tweeters and midrange drivers, some of which employ titanium diaphragms (my speaker came with a modern titanium diaphragm compression midrange driver with alnico magnets, but, I switched that driver out...
Suggest one obsure album we all should hear
Sandstone,I agree that Harry Partch is extraordinarily underappreciated.  I love his "Delusions of the Fury."
Can you get proper imaging if speakers are not the same distance from center?
It may sound good, but, you never know if it could sound better unless you experiment with placement.  It would be incredible luck if you just happen to find the ideal spot without extensive trial and error.  Even if you are not perfectly centered...
New Arm or New TT and arm?
The basic HW 19 table is a very well made, high performance platform.  If it has been maintained properly (meaning nothing more than not abused), it should be fine for use with any of the top tonearms out on the market.  I agree with millercarbon ...
I just finished my new listening room...
The link did not work for me as well.
2 Ohm Tekton Pendragons
I don't know what solid state amps would be happy with a nominal 2 ohm load, but, there probably are some out there.  In the past there were crazy demanding speakers, like the Apogee Scintilla, that were notorious for blowing up amps.  That speake...
2 Ohm Tekton Pendragons
With a tube amp, the issue is not only whether or not the amp can drive the low impedance load.  Because tube amps often have a high source impedance, the speaker impedance at all frequencies must be high enough so that frequency response is not a...
Horn speakers , high efficiency but not “shouty”
I've heard that speaker with the voxativ driver.  It sounded very good.  I think you have a speaker that can go toe to toe with almost anything on the market at any price.
Amperex "Bugle Boy" tube compatibility
Yes, it is pretty sad state of affairs that there are so many fakes out there.  I've never seen an etched diamond Telefunken fake.  I read somewhere that there are now even molded diamond fakes.  I know that my 803S tubes are not fakes (bought bef...
Borrowing equipment from dealers
By being a loyal customer, I not only have been able to audition gear in my home, I have gotten free minor repairs, including free parts, from a local dealership.  The relationship is mutual--I once lent my amplifier to the dealer who wanted to us...
Say a fella wants to build an SET monoblock based on the 300B..
I heard, and liked, the Elekit amp I heard at several audio shows.  This is supposedly an easy kit to build because the instructions are very clear and easy to follow. Elekit also offers several options for upgraded parts.
What is this feature?
When I turn my linestage off, the motorized pot automatically goes back to full off position.   If one wanted to preserve the precise listening level of the last session, this would be a negative, but, apart from that, I don't see a real problem. ...
Sophia 300B vs Jeff Korneff 45 Amp
Apart from considering the specific models of amps, there are many listeners who adore the sound of amps running 300b tubes.  I will agree that the midrange, in particular, of 300b amps sound saturated and beautiful.  The upper bass/lower midrange...
