SET Shootout China VS The USA
sns, I can understand race control wanting the race and the season championship to be decided by actual racing, hence the bending of the rules and conventional practice.  What they should have done, to be fair to all the drivers, and to conclude ...
SET Shootout China VS The USA
I own a parallel single-ended 2a3 amp; the two tubes are not in antiphase (pushpull) configuration.  Parallel single-ended puts out more power, and because  parallel operation reduces output impedance, the turn ratio of the output transformer can ...
Beginner wishes to build tube amp
If you can do with a really low-powered amp, there is the Elekit 300b amps.  I've heard that amp and it is quite good for the money.  It is supposedly quite easy to build because it comes with clear instructions with a lot of useful illustrations ...
Cartridge alignment, WallyTractor, SmartTractor, oscilloscope and Analogmaigk.
If one can find the tonearm pivot point with extreme precision, then the Smartractor or Feickert are the way to go.  I like the Smartractor a lot.  It is built for extreme precision, including offering different diameter spindle inserts so that th...
Merry Christmas to Me.....New tonearm on the way
The Triplanar looks like a terrific addition to your system.  I have only seen heard that arm in unfamiliar systems. but, I know it is a favorite among very serious vinyl fanatics and it is certainly a well-built arm.
Wally Tools Scores High (In my eyes anyway)
They are moving more and more into providing services, as well as the gear, for doing audio set ups.   I saw the Wallyscope at Capital Audiofest.  It is a specialized microscope mounted to a three-axis stand that allows for very precise positionin...
SET the best?
I'm with Atmasphere on the choice of tube.  I prefer the lower-powered tubes for SET amps, and I like the tubes in the order he presented--from 300b to 45 (the 45 sounds great if you can get by with a very low amount of power.  My own SET runs par...
SET the best?
Wow! More of the ever-evolving absolute conclusions based on very limited experience.  It is one thing to say that you have heard, and liked, a certain 845 amp running a particular set up, but, that does not then lead to a conclusion that "845 sur...
Upgrading your system three options DAC, Cartridge or speaker cables???
I would lean toward a better DAC, particularly because you mostly stream music and the DAC in most low-cost streamers are pretty bad.  If you don’t use your record player a lot, your cartridge may still have a lot of life left, and it is a decent ...
SET the best?
Speaking in very broad, generalized, terms, I tend to find pushpull amps to have a "tighter" more punchy sound than SET amps.  But, too much of that quality and the sound seems a bit artificial or "mechanical" and less natural than the more relaxe...
SET the best?
If you are considering parallel SET, be aware of the issue of one tube in a channel pair becoming much stronger than the other such that, in short order, you lose the full power capability of such amps.  Even when one starts with supposedly matche...
SET the best?
As I’ve said before, all types of tube amps can sound great, or less than great, depending on specific implementation and personal taste.  My favorite amp is a custom-built 35-watt OTL, my second favorite is a pushpull 252 tube amp, and the third ...
Your Favorite Christmas Song-One only Please-
I like Eartha Kitt’s “Santa Baby” where she offers sex in exchange for furs, a car, etc.
Moving away from inefficient/low impedance speaker in order to move to a Tube Amp
I think it is a matter of finding the right speaker and then matching them with the proper amplification.  Even if the the speakers are supposedly not efficient enough to work well with lower-powered amps, I personally find that, in most instances...
Tube Vs. SS Preamps
One more thing worth mentioning--some tube linestages do not play well with some solid state amps even when the output impedance of the linestage is low enough that the two should be electrically compatible.  I don't know why that is the case, but...
