Who's Your Favorite Bass Players; Why?
What, no Derek Smalls of Spinal Tap ?
What is the best tube integrated amp?
Cayin TA-30. Amazing performance for very little $$$$. Recently purchased one and my jaw still drops at how good this thing is. With a small/medium sized room this integrated will even drive a difficult low efficiency speaker. On top of it's solid...
Amazing ''Overachieving'' products...your pick?
I have to agree on the Cayin TA-30. An exceptional product. Sounds and looks way beyond it's asking price. It has finesse, detail, and surprising control for a 30 watt tube unit. I have had a number of integrated's in my system and this modest lit...
Barenaked Ladies
I am a BNL fan and think Gordon is a high point but I also like 'Born on a Pirate Ship'. The sonics on that recording are even better than Gordon. If you get the chance to see them live, do it. Fun time and the 'ladies' definetly have their chops ...
Arcam CD-33T FMJ vs Rega Jupiter 2000
I compared the Rega Jupiter 2000 to the Arcam 73T and prefered the Arcam! Must be one of those system synergy things because the Arcam presented information that was just missing on the Rega. I also thought the Arcam had better PRAT as well. I hav...
Chinese CD players vs. Arcam
I'm not totally happy with the 73T. I think the top end could be better, cymbals don't seem to have as much of the impact and bronze tone to them as they should. Bottom end seems a little lacking. I do like the mids however and soundstaging is sol...
Chinese CD players vs. Arcam
My 73T has a sticker on the back of the unit stating Manufactured in PRC which I take as Peoples Republic of China. A friend bought an 82 which clearly is marked Made in the UK. I have had my 73 for a couple of weeks and find it to be a nice sound...
Chinese CD players vs. Arcam
The 73T is made in China.
sleeper budget redbook players....
Phillips DVD727. Under $100, shockingly good. Seriously.
modified jolida 100, mh cd-25, or audio aero prima
I moved from a Theta transport/DAC combo to a Jolida a few months ago. No comparison, the Jolida is much smoother in the mids and high, more harmonic structure, space, better sense of rhythm, dynamics, detail. This is in a unit with only a tube up...
Concentra II - Power
My Concentra II drives a pair of Celestion Kingstons which are 84 db efficient. I have used many different amps (ARC, Bryston, CJ, Aaragon) over the years with these speakers and the Concentra II drives them very well with non of the compression o...
Have you gone hi-rez? Which format and why?
I have a entry level Sony DVD/SACD player that has failed to win me over to the HI-REZ camp. Yes it does sound good on SACD but given a quality recording I don't think that HI-REZ is all it's been made out to be. The Police Classics dual layer dis...
Speaking of PS Audio...
Someone other than the distributor, a large catalog outfit, or a dealer in Idaho has actually heard a Xindak! Get these people to post a review. I was very interested in the Xindak but the total lack or end user feedback, reviews, conflicting info...
Speaking of PS Audio...
I'm not familar with the Sony but I do have some experience with the Jolida and a Theta Data Basic transport which from what I can recall is very similar to the PS Audio Lambda. Both used the Phillips CDM9-Pro with a spatial lens filter and shared...
Tube suggestion for Jolida JD-100
I have tried two other as well. An Amperex 12AX7 smooth plate and a GE 5751WA Triple Mica Black Plate. The Amperex had a soft atmospheric quality to it. Pleasant but lacked inner detail and focus. I tried the GE based upon Joe's Tube lore. This pr...
