6550C vs KT88 I have both the Svetlana 6550, and the kt88. In my system the 6550 has better bass, but the kt88 absolutely kicks but in the midrange. Of all the kt88's ( new tubes, not nos ) The Svetlana has the smoothest mids and highs. I have also had discussi...
What should I upgrade next? I would trash the whole thing and start over :) But since you can not do that and you get even more lost with all the opinions here, then flip a coin and then commit to one thing. It has been my personal experience that the source will make the bi...

Cheap speaker tweak Well I couldn't find any 1 1/2" thick maple at Home Depot, I guess I'll need to check out a cabinet maker for this. But of course since I was at Home Depot and me being a typical guy ( kid in a candy store ) I had a look around. And what do you kn...
tube match? Here is the necessary info;41/40 (JTL 12AU7 with "D" shaped getter ), 37/36, 28/32, & 28/35. All measurements recorded on EMC 205 tester, where 40 is spec for a new tube and 25 is "acceptable" as 65%.
tube match? Sorry I should have mentioned the pre I wanted to run the tubes in is a Rogue 66. I will also e-mail and find out what type of tester was used.
Cheap speaker tweak If you really want to try the maple tiles, go to your local cabinet maker. Give him the measurements you would like, he/she can even put the fancy edge on for you if you would like. I know how we audiophiles are into looks :) I bought my amps base...
Cheap speaker tweak Ok Ok! So I'm not the inverntor of the idea but it was new to me, and I found it purely by accident. I think that is the way the Mississippi river was discovered as well, by accident. So just like me, someone down here was screaming " I found it I...
turntable madness Dekay,My buddy is going to drop ( I hope not literally )it off this Thursday or Friday, he lives a ways away. I am defintiely interested in the " Rat " I love DIY even though I have not done anything with audio equipment. But being a technician by...
Best Remote $1,250 used preamp? If you like the tube pre sound I would suggest sticking with it. BAT VK3i is in your ball park and was designed to work with either ss or tube gear. I think you will find it to be sweeter than the Sonic Frontiers. I think the pre you are running n...
turntable madness Psychicanimal,Good suggestions, I have actually been looking into the RAT Shack pre. It runs on a 9v battery? It must run deathly silent. Is there anyone out there who knows how long the battery lasts? I have also considered the phono pre by Paras... |
