Best speaker under $1K...... used market
FYI, Magnepan 1.6 is -3 dB at 40 Hz, Vandy 2CE is -3 dB at 29 Hz. You say you want deep bass, then your best chance is with the Vandy's.
Best speaker under $1K...... used market
Vandy 2Ce Sigs. Full range and they can be had used for under $1000. There are some for sale on A-gon.
Cary SLP-05 balanced or single ended
Yes, EH6SN7's. Sorry for the mistype.
Cary SLP-05 balanced or single ended
I run all balanced in my set up: Marantz SA11-S2 SACD to Cary SLP-05 pre to Cary 211 AE monoblocks to Vandy 3A Sigs all connected via Cardas cabling. The sound quality of this set-up is fantastic. I'm using EH 6SL7's - nothing exotic but they soun...
Upgrading the Cary 308T CD player
FYI, the Cary 306 SACD player has now been replaced by the 306 Professional player. List price has risen to $7500 which is well above your stated price range. I would like to suggest that you consider the hi-end Marantz CD/SACD playersw (e.g. the ...
Next up... new speakers...
Vandersteen Quatros would be an excellent choice.
marantz 11s2 sacd player modifications
The SA11-S2 is really, really good as is. The rest of my system is tubes and I'm sure that helps produce the excellent tonality of the SA11-S2. I would highly recommend that you try your S2 as is for a few hundred hours before doing anything. You ...
Looking for Polarity Invert Feature...
The focus seems to be on preamps, but I'll ofer that the Marantz SA11-S2 and SA7-S1 SACD/CD players have a polarity switch. They are excellent palyers for the money too.
Good speakers at low volume?
It seems that most everyone missed the point of my post regarding the Fletcher-Munson effect. The fact is that NO speaker will sound the same at both low volumes and high volumes because of this physiological reason. If a speaker sounds full and d...
Good speakers at low volume?
What you really need is a "loudness" button on your pre-amp. Unfortunately, these are rarely found in "hi-end" pre-amps or integrated amps these days. The reason you need the loudness button: Fletcher-Munson effect and your ears. The human ear is ...
the best CD player between 6'000 - 10'000 $ ?
I listen almost exclusively to classical music (both small and large ensembles) and I suggest you save some cash and get a Marantz SA11-S2 CD/SACD player (around $3500 new). It does everything well for acoustic instruments in both CD and SACD. I'v...
Audio Physic Scorpio or Vandersteen Signature 3A
Vandy 3A Sigs ARE NOT rolled off in the highs as claimed above. They produce a very natural timbre for acoustic instruments compared to many/most "high-end" speakers which are fatiguing to listen to because the treble is simply too hot. If you wan...
Proac+Cary and Accuphase or Esoteric CD
I also have the Cary 211's and the SLP-05 (mated to Vandersteen 3A Sigs). I used to have a Cary 306 SACD player (original version) but sold it mostly because I was worried about its longevity. I think this has been addressed with the new SACD 306 ...
Speakers: $3,000-$4,000 on Audiogon
For full range musical sound, Vandersteen 3a Sigs and Quattro's would fit the bill nicely. Used, you can get the 3A's for around $2200 and the Q's at ~$4500. Spendor Sp 1/2's and 100's are also great but you might miss the bottom octave. I would a...
Gain versus volume
Having the ability to select gain on your phono preamp gives you the flexibility to match the gain of your vinyl rig with that of other sources feeding your preamp (e.g. a cd player) so that whether you are listening to vinyl or cd your preamp vol...
