The sensitivity adjustment is explained under the heading "Left & Right Gain" on page 3 in the Preliminary Quick User Guide Software Rev 1.00.
Berkeley Alpha Reference run direct
The sensitivity of the Berkeley Reference is adjustable.  It is then possible to run the volume control at a higher setting. Since that adjustment increases the resolution that argument for the necessity of a preamp is thereby eliminated.

Certainly a big difference of opinion here:joeinid:  "With a preamp, you might get a slight loss of detail…"cerrot:  "The key, to me, was the loss in resolution with a digital volume control."I always thought the terms resolution and detail referr...
Berkeley Alpha Reference run direct
I have a Berkeley Alpha Reference DAC direct into Rowland mono- blocks.  I never thought there was any need for a preamp.  If I did I would want to use one from the same amplifier manufacturer to maximize synergy.  Otherwise, how do you decide on ...
What happened to Berkeley Audio Design
Erik!  It might be worth your time and trouble to look up that address and take a drive.  Berkeley may be encouraged to retain your services as a consultant once they hear your ideas personally.
What happened to Berkeley Audio Design

Bricasti M1 DAC vs PS Audio Direct Stream DAC

Bricasti M1 USB
There are numerous ventilation openings throughout the Bricasti casework. This leads me to believe that the unit runs very hot. Can anyone confirm how much heat the unit produces at idle? For example, how long are you able to hold your hand on it?...
Will the sound quality deminish over the years?
The OP inquired about loudspeaker degradation over time. Instead, he gets a discourse about tuners. Kijanki gave the only useful response. Foam driver surrounds deteriorate and need replacing. How soon depends on the heat and humidity of the envi...

Ads that begin with the redundant phrase "Up for Sale" also make me wonder why the waste of words. Of course the item is up for sale since this is the exclusive purpose of the ad. I have also seen "Up for Auction" when there is no auction for the ...
