CAT SL1 - is there enough GAIN using 0.4mV mc?? It might depend a little on what amp you intend to use with the CAT but in my system a step-up is needed to bring out the best in the 0.6 mV Koetsus. You might not know what you're missing until you try one.
Review: Wilson Audio X-2 Alexandria Speaker "The detail and resolution are superb at all volume levels"is a sure sign that something has been done right. Greatsystem and review! By dipping into your home equity to finance these babies are you effectively allowed to deduct their carrying cost?
Why the switch from Kharma/Tenor to DarTZeel/VSA I'm also enjoying this thread albeit from a somewhat vicarious view. It seems to be Kharma vs. von Schweikert and Tenor vs. Dartzeel. The participants appear to have the wherewithall and willingness to pursue the absolute best available (or soon t...
Have anyone pics and tech-data for a SU-1 step-up? Dear Raul,I agree that an "open mind" is a necessary prerequisite for enjoying this hobby. All reproduced sound is colored in one way or another...our individual experiences and preferences should dictate what palette we choose for painting our id...
Are Wilson speakers Springbok 10, congrats on the 3.2F's. I recently had the pleasure of listening to these and they sounded wonderful indeed! But,I can't help but think that moving from Krells and W/P's to Atmas and Kharmas might not produce some kind of "audio shoc...
Have anyone pics and tech-data for a SU-1 step-up? Hi Raul,I wonder what phono stage you might be using? I must respectfully disagree with your assertion that a step up device inevitably degrades the sound! The combination of a tube phono stage with a nice step up driven by a lower output cartridg...
Are Wilson speakers I think you have upgradeitis...not that there's anything wrong with that! In fact about 2 1/2 years ago, I felt the exact same thing having lived with WP 2/1's for about ten years. I was using them for the most part with older Rowland electronics ...

Verity Audio Sarastro - Anybody heard I listened to the Sarastros at the recent Montreal show and would have to agree with the impression that the ribbon tweeters did not appear to integrate well. They were also quite strident sounding and the whole setup which used a large solid stat...
Personal speaker evolution Speakers have changed least often so they can be remembered.I'll start with smaller Advents although there were some no name jobs in my very first system. Then came the larger Advents...I thought the smallers were better with more tuneful bass. Ne...
What was your first music that you paid for? Although I had been collecting 45's for a short while, I remember my first LP purchase vividly. I was brought along to Toronto with my parents on a trip and ended up at Sam the Record Man, then and for a long while the mecca of record stores in Ca...
would you bother? It all boils down to software availability and that boils down to several factors...1. Are you prepared to wait for the few new releases to come out on LP vs. CD?2. Are you prepared to pay a premium for LP reissues of music you may already have on...
What music do you want to play really loud? Lately it's been Rachel Podger doin' La Stravaganza.
Review: Cable shootout Nordost, Purist, Synergistic, MIT Speaker cable Well done Cmo! Happiness is finding the "right" wire. My personal IC/SC shootouts over the past two years has left the Purist Venustas standing for much the same reasons as you describe. No mean feat since our systems differ.
Tubes for Nagra VPA JWK, I have no clue what the other two holes are for. Just don't stick anything in there while the amps are running! Perhaps someone reading this could fill us both in.I have left the tubes alone in these amps. In general, swapping out tubes in yo... |
