End of Snell Acoustics? Had a pair of Type D's some years back and having also gone through Spendors and Living Voice and KEFs and JBLs, the Snells really held their own. I thought the quality of the Snells was amazing too. They were indestructible.
Wise audio aphorisms Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance.
favorite SOPRANO? I like Eril's list, but like to add Angela Gheorghiu and Renee Fleming. Sandrine Piau singing Mozart is still my favorite though.
Speakers For McIntosh MC352 With a McIntosh C-40 preamp, Marantz Digital front end, and the MC352, I absolutely enjoy music thru my Spendor SP100's. The Spendors are relatively sensitive speakers at 90 db but they still need power such as that of the MC352 to control the 12"...
Is Smoking Really That Bad For Audio Equipment? If the equipment smell of smoke, it means tobacco residues have deposited all over the equipment, doesn't it? Think about it.
What new gear will you be buying this year? I'm saving up in 2006 so I can buy something outrageously expensive and heavy in 2007--wait, I said the same thing for 2005...maybe I'm saving up too much. Happy and Healthy New Year to all.
Do you care about the LOOK??? All of us contributing to this thread OBVIOUSLY care about how our equipments sound AND look. The truth of the matter is that we are blessed with so many choices of components in performance and aesthetics. Two different amps with similar price, p...
What other hobby or hobbies do you have? Doing fun things with my children/family. I know most audiophiles have this phobia of kids around their equipment but my two boys have never bothered my tube amp or any part of my set-up. I also love tennis, archery, and yes, cognac.
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive? 1995 Mercedes E320, currently with slightly over 200,000 miles.Would love to own any one of the Aston Martins.
What time do you wear? 2004 Casio G-Shock--your basic atomic clock (never needing adjustment), solar powered, indestructable. It goes with my VTL gear just fine.
Why not just unplug it? I agree with you, Lkdog.
Plinius - experiences/opinions I have a Plinius CD-LAD preamp and it's great, if you mainly listen to CD's.I would also tell you that Peter Thomson at Plinius is a great guy!! The type of customer services they provide is second to none. Whatever Plinius equipment you'd get you...
recommend entry-level high-efficiency loudspeakers If you could step up to a used pair of Living Voice Auditorium (about $1200-1500)--you'll never regret it. Its strength is the midrange. I've not heard better female vocals than these--maybe even better than Spendors.
How good are McIntosh MC7300 and C40? The C40 is great. I've been using it with my MC352 and the C40 sounds much better than several other preamps that I also own. I'm now experimenting the C40 with a VTL amp and I can tell you they sound wonderful together too.
McIntosh MC352 Vs MC500 I have the MC352 and just couldn't be happier with the tonality, speed, and bass extension of this amp. There is plenty of power unless you have huge power-hungary electrostatics being used in a huge room. Good luck and happy shopping! |
