Regrets
Had to sell my Accuphase P-300, C-200, T-100 to pay for books and tuition during college. Overall, a very good investment in the long run, but I really do wish I still had that fine equipment.
Need cable reccomendation for Cary/Proac system
I'm using Blue Heavens (pre-amp) and HomeGrown silver (dac-pre) cables with a CJ/ProAc 2.5 system and have had great luck with them. Both cables are relatively neutral and seem to match well with the overall warmth of the system.
Sellers adding for PayPal use is plainly BS
I've never used the c2it service, but I notice that they don't charge a fee on either end for credit card transactions within the US. I'd be curious to hear from folks that have some experience with their service and can compare it to PayPal.
Coolest looking speaker ever ?
Stacked Dahlquist DQ-10's. Over the top ugly and fabulous sounding, which in my book makes them pretty darned cool ;-)I have to agree with Sugarbrie though. Those B&W's really are a sight to see.
Naive question about digital encoding
Thanks for all of the responses. As always, when all else fails, RTFM. The DVD player has an option buried deep in the setup menu for specifying the format of the digital output, which in my case is set as "incompatible with 96khz". I'll have to a...
Do power conditioners really help?
The improvement (or degradation) in sound depends on how dirty your AC is. In many urban areas (most probably), the AC is likely to be sorely polluted by the high density of appliances, machinery, RF interference, etc, that tend to degrade the sou...
CJ 16ls vs Cj17ls vs Pass Labs X1
I'll second all that Hindemith says about the 17LS vs 16LS. I ended up buying a 17LS after auditioning both together and while I could hear the difference between them, it didn't seem to be enough to justify the additional cost. For me, the 17 rep...
CJ Premier 15 & 17LS Tube Suggestions
I have a 17LS, and with the stock Sovtek 6922's its dead quiet at all volume levels. If you also have Sovtek's, its likely that one or more of those little guys is having a problem, or that the noise is coming either from the 15, or from somewhere...
Speakers with bass response?
Joeb -- Before rushing out to spend money on new equipment, you ought to try a bit of repositioning first. Depending on your room, many things can play into how much bass you receive in your listening position. The general considerations usually a...
Audiogon Ethics
jax - I'm not an attorney, but I do believe that not knowing about and not disclosing a serious flaw with the item you're selling, especially one that would effect its safety or operation is still fraud. From what I understand, consumer laws are s...
Conrad-Johnson PF-R Preamp Review Summary?
Abe -- When you finally get it up and running, let us know what you think. Given your experiences with both the CJ PV and ARC preamps, it'll be useful to hear a comparison.-- Ken
Proac 1.5 v.s 2.5
Yes, I believe the cost difference between the 1.5's and 2.5's is worth it. I spent a long while auditioning both speakers and ended up with the 2.5's. The additional bottom end (and it has fabulous bass) combined with its much larger soundstage a...
Conrad-Johnson PF-R Preamp Review Summary?
Abe - I've never heard an application of the PFR that didn't sound great to my ears. It has the familiar CJ family sound, but is somewhat quicker and tighter than the Premier tube preamps. It doesn't produce the same soundstage or have quite the "...
? for Proac Response Owners
Since I have mine single wired and use the jumper bar, I can't use spade lugs to attach to the binding posts. I currently have them connected with banana plugs (the Monster variety) which seem to work fine, but have also tried them with bare wire ...
Conrad-Johnson PF-R Preamp Review Summary?
I don't have the Stereophile issue you mention, but I do love that preamp :-)
