Newbee help- Volume low even at full preamp volume-???
65dB = 17780.42mV x 1778 = 0.75V Still low - needs about 8.5dB more to get to standard 2V. Am I missing something?
Do you rely on RAID as your NAS backup?
Ozzy, I also keep my "source" drive ON but it goes into sleep mode. Check "Power Options".  In Windows 7 hard disk timeout is in "Advanced Settings".
Do you rely on RAID as your NAS backup?
Again, RAID is not a backup.  It can be destroyed by controller failure, virus, voltage spike, bug in OS or controller software etc.    If you use Crashplan you can use it with single drive as well.  Crashplan is your backup - not RAID.In addition...
Would someone explain what "up sampling" means and how it can affect the sound?
Oversampling - integer multiple of original rateUpsampling - non-integer multiple of original rateFor instance, my Benchmark DAC1 is upsampling (and not the oversampling) DAC,
Integrated Amp Vs. Outboard DAC
AE stops streaming during breaks between songs.  My Benchmark DAC1 is fast enough to start again but some other DACs loose first second of the song.  Remedy for that is to "fade" between songs.  Perhaps they fixed it in new version of AE?
Integrated Amp Vs. Outboard DAC
Agree with external DAC, but be careful since many TVs output only Dolby and not the PCM.  My Samsung TV has choice in the menu, but Panasonics and few others output PCM only with analog TV (NTSC) and Dolby with digital (ATSC).
Cleaning a scratchy volume control...
Pot in my DAC is PCB mount.  It is small plastic square that have end cap with two diagonal screws.  I lift one corner with exacto blade and thru tiny gap I spray it inside.  This stuff is non-corrosive and non-conducting but I placed paper towels...

Transferring files from PC formatted hard drive to Macbook
Al, thanks for warning - I missed it.
Transferring files from PC formatted hard drive to Macbook
Lincnabby, It is simple. Just plug this disk into MAC and copy all the files to any drive you want. Your MAC can read FAT32 or NTFS. The only difference is that MAC cannot write (at default settings) to NTFS formatted drive.Just to be 100% sure I ...

Can a apple airport express be part of a audiophile system?
Steve, I’m not sure why Stereophile opinion, that AE sounds good even without reclocker, and the measurements provided are so different from your experience. Since AE is bit perfect, as Stereophile tested, the only thing that would make any differ...
Can a apple airport express be part of a audiophile system?
- It was less expensive- It worked with Itunes- My DAC is jitter supressing (reclocking)- All my files are 16/44.1
Can a apple airport express be part of a audiophile system?
Reclocker (or reclocking DAC) is always a good thing.  The other option is to use async USB, that should do the same.  Jitter is not inherent problem of AE - it is inherent problem of all devices.  I wouldn't call 258ps jitter a problem (a lot of ...
