Single driver speakers - opinions Mariusz - That's great! I read Stereophile review of 707 speakers. Have you heard them? The other option is to keep modifying my current speakers but I have already problems with new tweeter (Morel Supreme 110). Maybe two Fostex unit could replace...
Are most PC's ROHS now compliant? Led acid batteries are exempt from ROHS.In general ROHS requires amount of lead to be lower by weight than certain percentage of total weight of the unit. In theory one could make unit much heavier by oversizing lub adding stuff and pass ROHS.Etba...
Bel Canto S300 vs Channel Islands D-100 It was mentioned on other forum that Belcanto sound is closer to very good tube amp while D100/200 sound more like very good class AB SS amp. It might be due to output configuration - full bridge on S300 (Icepower)and half bridge on D100/200 (Hypex)
Something New. Blindjim - there is nothing magnetic in the drive. It migh get damaged from huge electromagnets (one that would pull iron from your blood).
Something New. Etbaby - Flash has limited number of writes not reads - you can read it infinetely.
Leave solid state amps on? Or turn off everytime? Musicnoise - Power-up transients don't do more harm to electrolytic caps than constant ripple current, but increase by merely 10 degrees Celsius of temperature inside will cut capacitors life by half. I addition we won't be able to unplug during t...
Speaker cable length I wonder why nobody mentioned inductance of the straight wire. It runs in order of 0.5uH/ft and for 27feet of cable it is 13.5uH. At the frequency of 20kHz it represent impedance of 1.7 ohm. Use even lengths for the left and right speakers.Resista...
Which power amp to try? According to similar thread some time ago Tine dancers work great wit Bel Canto S300 and Ref1000 - class D Icepower amps. Ref1000 is probably overkill but s300 or Rowland model 102 (same thing as S300) might be right fit.
XLR vs. Phono Cables I second what Shardone wrote - Don't do it. Not only that levels are small but also low frequencies are boosted by phono stage. In addition cable's capacitance my interfere with your cartridge.
Suggestions for "balanced" interconnects? Within $1k you can get Acoustic Zen Absolute (I use 0.5m XLR) - hard to beat according to reviews.
CDP or DAC with DVD player Braudio7 - I have the cheapest Sony DVD player ($69) with Benchmark DAC1. It is connected with 1 ft 75 ohm coax. In addition TV is connected with Toslink and I'm planning to make another connection to my MAC Mini using Toslink and Toslink/XLR adap...
Speaker shock absorbers Musicnoise - hockeypucks might be to hard. Vibrapods are constructed of special rubber specially for that purpose. My speakers are also around 90 lbs and very rigid - (a lot of cross boards inside) but floor is not (basement). Originally I had spi...
Speaker shock absorbers Musicnoise - I use Vibrapods. I placed one under each corner. They cost $5 a piece in weight ranges 1-5. I have 5s at the front (heavier) and 4s under back corners. It was one of the best things I bought. Bass became short well control and very ev...
