The Best Best Speaker Thread
"I don't think there is such a speaker unless everyone in the universe all agree on"Everyone in good society holds exactly the same opinion.
The CD player is dead.......
Pettyofficer - I don't know if music or computer industries are going to do anything with CD format. My impression is that they don't care. I like CDs and buy them but use computer server just for the convenience. I use Apple Lossless format (ALAC...
The CD player is dead.......
Pettyofficer - A lot of words with a little or no sense plus unnecessary name calling. Stop using, man.
Are DACS necessary?
Bsoz - I'm using Benchmark DAC1 as a pre since I don't have analog sources - otherwise I would find DAC with preamp like Benchmark DAC1 PRE. Using DAC as a preamp eliminates one set of interconnects.
You're selling that? But you just got it
"Should I divorce her for manipulating me so?" - If you do, I'll take her. I love to be manipulated like that.Friend of mine has speakers covered all the time by ornamental blankets because, according to his wife, they are not esthetically pleasin...
The CD player is dead.......
"Kijanki, I still don't know why I am NOT getting through!"I'm still not sure what you want to improve in "Music Storage". The only parameter that counts is the jitter and it can be suppressed many different ways. My storage to DAC transimission e...

What if she is the one into this hobby? Would she trade shoes for a gear? (are you there Elizabeth?)
The CD player is dead.......
Pettyofficer - Take it easy. Nobody wants to get you or take away your CDs. I'm not sure what you call computer audio but in my setup I cannot hear the difference between computer playback over Airport Express and directly connected transport. For...
The CD player is dead.......
Knownothing - Original question wasn't about CD but rather CDP. I still buy CDs new and used but enjoy convenience of the server.
The CD player is dead.......
CDP has advantage of being compact, simple, one piece solution - like typewriter.
The CD player is dead.......
Mlsstl - You're right. Nothing is 100% safe. I also know that backup Hard Disks tend not to fail when they are not powered. I have two backups - total of 3 1TB drives. Each costs $99 and is dead silent (no fan, heavy metal case). Somebody mentione...
The CD player is dead.......
"I remember when tube gear was dead, deader than dead, by the 1970's. And vinyl was "dead" after the first (then awful) CDP's came out in the early '80's.I still have most of my LP's now, & a tube pre-amp......I'm also REALLY happy"nec·ro·phil...
Benchmark Dac 1 Pre Volume pot?
Do you mean Alps Blue Velvet? This would be expensive and large pot (conductive plastic track). It would not even fit since it is 1" square. Tiny greenish pot in my Benchmark DAC1 is quite good and has excellent tracking even at the lowest setting...
Does the quality of a digital signal matter?
Shadorne - I'm not sure how this interpolation works. Is it happening also when I use program that rips CD as data (like MAX) - I hope not. Do you know?
Does the quality of a digital signal matter?
Shadorne - CD copy should be bit perfect only if CD is copied as data and not as a music CD. For example - with I tunes I can make copy of CD that is not readable as data using MAX (with "do not allow to skip" option). You can make 10 copies of sc...
