When is digital going to get the soul of music?
Mekong56 speaks death in his 666 post - be careful!
All Amps Sound the Same....
To be more clear:Instead:"Using cables longer than 10ft exposes your amp to electromagnetic pickup of everything below 10MHz"should say:"Using cables shorter than 10ft protects your amp from electromagnetic pickup below 10MHz"My logic had better d...
All Amps Sound the Same....
Frogman - nobody is talking about complete picture but rather about step in right direction. As for the wire and interference. Lets for a moment assume that we're talking about speaker cables. Interference, usually high frequency, can be capacitiv...
All Amps Sound the Same....
Onhwy61 - I'm only saying to avoid products that measure too well for the price, because something has to give and often it is sound. Soulution monoblocks look very impressive but I'm more withing Rowland 625 range. I agree, that some kind of dyna...
All Amps Sound the Same....
Onhwy61 - Rowland amps sound great because of Jeff Rowland and not any measurements. Atmasphere amps measure quite bad (THD=1%, DF=1) but sound great. I don't want to go into details why "feature massive use of negative feedback, outrageously good...
All Amps Sound the Same....
"but if you want to electronically reproduce music, then the measurements should be the dominate method of understanding."Onhwy61 - In order to get pleasant sound from SS amplifier you need to elimnate TIM (transient intermodulation) distortion th...
best wood for speaker cabinets ? oak, cherry, balti
I found this article that makes extensive comparison between birch plywood and MDF: http://www.tnt-audio.com/clinica/cabinet_walls_e.htmlTo my surprise they found birch to be better. 11-ply Baltic Birch plywood might be good.
Neutral Sounding Silver Cables?
Acoustic Zen Absolute is silver with 1% copper in oversized foam Teflon tubes. Very neutral cable. I got 0.5m XLR for $600 used perhaps because of uncommon length. On the other hand 2x shorter cable is 2x better cable.
If your whole system costs $40,000....
At this price point it is cheaper to house Symphony Orchestra in the living room - nothing beats real thing.
best wood for speaker cabinets ? oak, cherry, balti
There might be different reasons why manufacturers use birch. One of them is perception of quality - hardwood vs. MDF. People often choose kitchen cabinets with plywood shelves not knowing that MDF works much better (less sagging). The other reaso...

Matt - I don't quite understand analogy with guitar woods. Cedar and Spruce are two woods with the highest strength to weight ratio and often used for the guitar tops to make it vibrate well. You don't want vibration and the one of the best materi...
All Amps Sound the Same....
Jeff_jones - it is not that simple. SS designs 50 years ago were horrible with huge negative feedback and a lot of TIM distortions. Sanity is slowly coming back but amplifier design is not a trivial thing especially with budget constraints. The fa...
Do powercords make a difference in sound?
Btselect - that's true, power is very important but when you're in drag racing you don't care how smooth is the ride. There is plenty of very dynamic systems that sound horrible in spite of super outlets, dedicated lines etc. I do still agree abou...
All Amps Sound the Same....
Most of my friends believe that all amps and CDPs sound the same (it is only about power while digital sounds always the same). Interestingly, they believe that speakers make big difference. 33% success rate ain't bad.
Power Cord for Power Conditioner
Paulsax - not only that science to measure does not exist but also that current science cannot be trusted. Amplifier, for instance, that has the best specifications most likely will sound the worst.
