Fidelity vs. Musicality...........Is there a tug of War?
No, you actually prefer an amp that adds distortion, and your benchmark reduces clarity. This is not true. Our hearing evolved over millennia to interpret the fundamental frequency and even ordered harmonics as natural and clear sound. There is no n...
Fidelity vs. Musicality...........Is there a tug of War?
Colours would be visible fundamental wavelengths/frequencies. Not harmonics of the fundamental. We’re not talking about harmonics in the recorded music, but harmonics added where they did not exist at all. Adding harmonics to piano, that are differ...
Fidelity vs. Musicality...........Is there a tug of War?
I prefer an amp that adds 5% 2nd order harmonics over one which adds 0.01% 5th order harmonics.I prefer amplifier that does not add any distortion. My Benchmark AHB2 has THD=0.00011% (-119dB, inaudible). Any distortion is coloring sound (reducing ...
Fidelity vs. Musicality...........Is there a tug of War?
2nd order harmonics is not distortion, 5th order harmonics is. Anything added is distortion.  Piano, for instance, has overtones stretched over harmonics.  Octave higher key is not tuned to double frequency but to overtone of the lower octave key ...
Fostex tweeter FT48D
Yes, it is unreal.  FT48D bottom frequency is 800Hz and not 88Hz.
cassettes CAN sound better than vinyl.
There's really no comparison. For example, that's why tape deck manufacturers used -20dB levels when they quoted frequency response for cassette decks. You really don't want to know what it looks like at 0 dB.Music doesn't have high frequencies at...
Fidelity vs. Musicality...........Is there a tug of War?
Hjghly detailed systems for me lose out in musicality. It is less natural. It might be that at home we got used to certain sound, that is different from live performance and we follow it?  Perhaps we also try to compensate for music compression by...
Is improvisational jazz to impressionism art as smooth jazz is to realism art?
@stuartk   Of course.  I love Jazz.
Is improvisational jazz to impressionism art as smooth jazz is to realism art?
Jazz is simply inferior to classical music.  Jazz musicians don't know where the right notes are and "hunt" for them by trial and error, while classically trained musicians find them instantly.  Just look at Jazz bassist or guitarist - they "walk"...
Which component to upgrade to improve bass control?
Less resistance means greater damping factor (control).Damping factor has very little to do with damping of the membrane (in spite of the name).

The Importance of the Digital Cable
This is not true. As mentioned by several here; the "digital" signal is actually electric and any ic might do a ok job, just try. Don`t let the salesman fool youThis is not true.  As mentioned many times here digital signal is affected by time jit...
Low gain amp system matching
@lowrider57   They had two versions of M3: pre i post October 2013.  Both have gain of 18dBHere is user manual that reflects it:  https://d1b89e86-9572-4311-9f80-60009b280608.filesusr.com/ugd/3e7c3b_cb9f60cb6a26418992b53df75192a77...
Question on Preamp Outputs.
As for the output being always 450W. It is always 450W because for different speaker load transformer has different output voltage (amp has different gain). 8ohm speaker would normally produce half of the 4ohm speaker, but amp’s gain for 8ohm outp...
Question on Preamp Outputs.
So what?  This amp has double gain at unbalanced input (26dB vs 20dB), for the output power to be 450W at nominal voltage at given input, but output voltage will be a linear function of input voltage at given input.  If you lower voltage at given ...
