What Power Amplifier Should I Buy? @jimmy2615 @perazzi28 I've talked to Bryston about bi-amping. They recomment against doing it because the speakers drop below 4 ohms at the xover to the highs (2.2 KHz), although they hedged saying I moght be OK because there's not much power/...
What Power Amplifier Should I Buy? @soix Hi, I can understand your frustration. Please tell me how I can clarify. I would like to keep seeing your inputs to my questions, even if it is not complementary. I value what you have to say. I cannot explain why this XP-12 was a failure ...
What Power Amplifier Should I Buy? @jbuhl Hi, see my system pics. Room dims are there.
What Power Amplifier Should I Buy? Wow! So many great ideas. I appreciate how these posts have recommended changes to other components, so much so that I thought I would discuss my system in a bit more detail. The Paragon System E is used as a Phono pre only. It creates a beautif...
What Power Amplifier Should I Buy? @ditusa Thanks for showing me an alternate path. Could you explain how a second sub improves the imaging and sound stage? Perhaps I used the wrong word. By "oomph" I meant more power for transients. I wasn't indicating that I needed more bass. I ...
This One has Me Stumped Pass Labs found a gain module that was out of spec. The preamp was manufactured in 2019. Passed replacd the module with the current production module and tested. My XP-12 is now in spec. I've not set it up in my system yet. Pass was very respons...
This One has Me Stumped @jji666 I've measured signal levels throughout my system with an AC voltmeter, osclloscope and RTA. The measured input and output voltages are well within normal range for each component. I hope that Pass has an answer.
This One has Me Stumped I've taken the xp-12 into the Pass factory. Kent gave me a quick tour of the production area. I explained my observations and measurements to the tech who will be testing the xp-12. They've had it for about a week. I do hope they have found somet...
This One has Me Stumped @asctim No. Distortion is audible and clearly present on REW data also.
This One has Me Stumped @audphile1 You have a great suggestion. Please check my analysis below: Shelter 901 output is 0.5mV at 0 dB. Zphono gain is 60 dB (1000x). So the input to the xp-12 is 0.5V at 0dB. This is right in the sweet spot for input. 20dB more might cause...
This One has Me Stumped I called Pass. They told me to send it in. Since I live about 30 min away from the factory, I will hand deliver it tomorrow.
Bryston BP-17 cubed or Benchmrk LA4 Preamp I bought a Pass Labs XP-12, used for about the same price as the Bryston and Benchmark preamps. I will get it tomorrow. The reason for the switch to Pass is that the buzz around the Pass gear is that ii is warm(ish) sounding. The other two are pr...
Bryston BP-17 cubed or Benchmrk LA4 Preamp I could try this test using the volume control on my Oppo BDP-105 to play digital media and files. This seems to be a good way to estimate the sonic signature of the 38s. I want to stay analog all the way with my other sources - a tuner and two c...
Bryston BP-17 cubed or Benchmrk LA4 Preamp Now, I've been looking at the Pass XP-12. It has all the features I am interested in. I've read that it is warmer sounding than the Benchmark and Bryston preamps. Will it match well with my Bryston 2.5B^3 power amp? New ones are at my price limi...
Bryston BP-17 cubed or Benchmrk LA4 Preamp @jimmy2615 Extremely helpful insight. I don't think that I am sensitive enough to pick out this subtle effect, but I'm glad you can. I don't really know if my system is on the warm side or cooler. I have nothing to compare it to. No local audi... |
