Replace Silver interconnect cable , please advice
Masterbuilt Signature. If you can spring for it, the Masterbuilt Ultras as soon as they're available. I auditioned the Ultras in March. The Signatures are pure copper. The Ultras composition is more esoteric.
Speakers that do pianos really well
Piano is a great litmus test of speakers. Done right, you should feel the power and weight of the bass registers, but with clarity and detail. I suggest the Santiago Rodriguez performances of Rachmaninov (try Elan #CD42412). Check out track #2. On...
Moving up from Cardas Clear
Camb, I've submitted a review of the Ultras (not yet approved & posted). I have to say that I wasn't prepared for the improvement the Ultras made and that was just with insterting just one pair of two meter XLRs. I sent them back in late April...
Moving up from Cardas Clear
The prices on the MG Signatures I saw were $6200 for the power cords (6 ft), $3500/$4250 for RCA/XLR interconnects, and $6000 for 8 foot biwire speaker cables. These were as of early 2012. I got a chance to audition the prototype of the new Master...

What's your budget for ICs and powercords? Without cost constraint, for powercords, I'd recommend the Masterbuilt Signatures. For interconnects, the Masterbuilt Ultras (by far).
can u cut longer interconnects and reterminate?
I just received from Delphi the two pair of Masterbuilt Signature balanced interconnects that I had them reterminate. I had a 4 meter pair cut to a 2-1/2 and a 1-1/2 meter pair. The cost was around $200 plus the four new XLR connectors.
Power Cable for PSA Perfectwave MK2
Masterbuilt Signature. All the things you list plus amazingly deep bass.
Tube dampers/coolers effect on preamp sound?
Lowrider, yes I have the Herbies dampers for components with the larger, softer contact material. I find using about 4 or 5 per speaker cable cleans up the sound, not to the degree of the tube dampers, but audibly nonetheless. I've only heard them...
Tube dampers/coolers effect on preamp sound?
My experience is that tube dampers are essential. They can improve low level resolution, microdynamics, and allow higher volumes before distortion limits the volume at which you're comfortable. One thing I've found is that it's important to damp t...
Von Schweikert VR 22
I heard the VR22's at this year's RMAF. They're more revealing (and demanding) of upstream components than the VR33's and will serve well to judge equipment as your system evolves. The VR22's impressed me to the point that I purchased a pair for a...
Do expensive cables/wires REALLY make a difference
After a long journey over the last 35 years I've settled on a complete system of MasterBuilt interconnects, speaker cables, and powercords. Now, anytime I replace any part of the set, even one pair of interconnects, it's easy to hear how the syste...
"Undo" biwiring?
You mention that you've tried using jumpers. Did you mean to say "which have not made a difference..."? The reason I ask is that jumpers don't provide the benefit that biwiring can.If the high-pass crossover functions by presenting a high impedanc...
bi-wire vs jumpers
Mordante, if the current for all frequencies flows in a common cable, magnetic fields are generated by the current for all frequencies. As a result, the relatively large current in the bass can modulate the higher frequencies.Typically, the high-p...
$18k Tube preamp for large scale symphonies please
My experience is that a preferred absolute phase setting versus the opposite is easily audible on the great majority of recordings, true stereo, multimiked, mono, whatever. Now, we may have a semantic difference where the effect to which you refer...
$18k Tube preamp for large scale symphonies please
One needs to be at the listening position to compare the sound of the alternate settings of absolute phase. There's no consistency in how absolute phase is oriented on recordings. Sometimes it isn't even consistent from track to track. That makes ...
