O-10, once you backed off of "it was all gone, nothing remained" and went with "it was significantly depleted," my objections to your theory have turned more "meh."One nagging thought:You seem to assume that villages averaging 100 inhabitants were...

O-10, I feel like I'm on the spot and not sure why.  The 1995 JSTOR piece frogman posted is interesting, but I don't intend to post some kind of lengthy analysis.  Maybe you should posit something and get the discussion going in the usual sequence.

jyadlon, Al Kooper would be proud.  "Projections" wasn't my 1st album but it was my first Blues Project album.  I soon added "Planned Obsolescence" and the two live albums.  Part of my haphazard, unguided investigation into why I was so drawn to w...

@frogman Your Cliff Notes version of that study is a great explanation for the difference between "thick" and "husky."  The player's initial attack on blowing each note does seem to be the difference between a raspy "edge" and a smooth, rich "thic...

Played Kenny Burrell with Coleman Hawkins this AM ("Bluesy Burrell" - 1962).  I'm thinking Hawkins sounds "frequently husky" on these - or maybe "sometimes husky."https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vz-5RfdViWEhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igKYXar3K...

@whatjd Back in the day that was known as "Dave Syndrome."  You're lucky to have escaped without delving into Dave Dee or Dave Mason.  ;)

It's Friday and that Snooky Young gave me goose bumps for the first time all week.  Among other things, his gentle touch when he adds vibrato is lovely. Thanks frogman for the history on "Li'l Darlin'."  I had no idea bands looked at it that way.  ...

@frogman We all appreciate the spirit behind tribute recordings, but sometimes the better part of valor is leaving things alone.  Mintzer's "Cute" gets too frenetic given the bouncy flavor of the composition, and his "Lil' Darlin" feels unbearably...

Duke - "Since I've been Loving You" on Led Zep III was their swan song for me.  I loved 1 & 2 because of the raw blues covers ("I Can't Quit you Babe" - holy ****).  Then they went in a different direction and lost my interest.  Their commerc...
