For all you Vinyl lovers! @larsman For me, the best thing about vinyl isn't "the artifact." It's the natural, relaxed, realistic sound. As I tell my non-audiophile friends, one must spend significantly more on an analog front end in order to surpass digital reproduction,...
Jazz listening: Is it about the music? Or is it about the sound? @coltrane1 Your experience interests me because I grew up learning to play trumpet & baritone. I dabbled with the french horn but found the mouthpiece tiny and the instrument kind of stubborn. Never got as far as improvisational jazz though....
Jazz for aficionados Charlie died from tuberculosis at 25, in 1942. Never had time to become a band leader, and electric guitar was a novelty at that point. He laid down some sweet stuff though.
Jazz for aficionados No thoughts on Charlie Christian?
Jazz for aficionados *** Saudi Arabian Hard Bop ***I don't care who you are... that's funny! I've been to the Kingdom several times. As I tell everyone: there are many reasons it never appears in vacation travel brochures.
Jazz for aficionados Since I've only been a frequent GFA participant for the last few months (over the winter), I'm wondering if this relative silence from other members is typical when Spring and Summer come around?I ask again, where the heck is everyone?
Jazz for aficionados Holy **** rok, these OPs (Oscar Peterson, not Original Poster) are the real deal, the essence. Thanks!
Is It Time To Sell My Vinyl Rig? $2,000 would pay for many concert tickets, or one record? Lots of folks out there should do some self-audit. If you're in podunk and live music doesn't make it to you, maybe there's some justification for it. I just don't get it.
Jazz listening: Is it about the music? Or is it about the sound? Pesky, that's funny. I had almost forgotten my first preamp was a Soundcraftsman with full spectrum equalizer. Had that 4 years and have never had tone controls since.
Jazz listening: Is it about the music? Or is it about the sound? Americans are prone to binary thinking. Is it this or that? This is the reason, not that. Blah blah blah...Guess what - jazz lovers love both the music and great recordings. We don't have to draw some kind of imaginary line between the two.
Jazz for aficionados pjw, thanks for the Art Pepper. Gorgeous. Another record to "acquire."
Jazz for aficionados The Kansas City 6, Carnegie Hall, Xmas eve, 1939Lester Young on tenor with Charlie Christian on electric guitar. I think Charlie's advancement between this performance and the track I posted from 1941 is remarkable."Pagin' the Devil"https://www.y...
Jazz for aficionados Cool 5-minute "mini documentary" on Charlie Christian produced by the "Jazz Guitar" gang. Tuberculosis - gone at age 25 in 1942.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcC18U5HoY8
