MC352 into varying-load speaker?
Sean, confused. Your first post in this thread seemed to imply that autoformers could work. But the blasphemy comment is pretty strong in the opposite direction. Not knowing where to begin picking your brain, perhaps you could summarize the idea, i...
More EAC/FLAC help please...
Thank you! I am in business (hopefully for a while).
MC352 into varying-load speaker?
Sean, thank you for the excellent analysis and background info. I will try to talk with someone at Usher Monday. I do not have the Mac but am contemplating purchasing it used, but at its weight and cost it is something I would like some more knowl...
HELP - buzzing on Magnepan 3.6R; repair or not?
Maggies may sound good when done right but I was never able to achieve this, and the many drawbacks prompted me to sell them. That is not what you were asking about though. I believe your panel may be damaged. If you call up and talk to Wendell (an...
help converting EAC files to FLAC
You guys are great. Flac plugin from Winamp finished the job. Squeezie here I come...BTW, speaking of Squeezebox, do you guys use wired or wireless? In the spot where I am planning to place the unit, I do not get very good wireless reception on my...
help converting EAC files to FLAC
Nikturner, I have some success using your suggestions. Reinstalling EAC resulted in FLAC taking the appropriate amount of time and it gave me a file compressed to about 60%, which is about right. However, I could not play it in WinAmp, some strang...
help converting EAC files to FLAC
Yeah, there is something wrong here. First, FLAC settings show that the following are checked: Verify, Add Tags, Replaygain, Treat input files as 1 album, and Delete Input files. I think should be no prob here. But I think the prob is in EAC. First...
JD100 - can I do better under $2K
Readster - LOL. Nice when someone can just walk away. As noted, I have the RCA NOS 5751 (trip plate), but may be interested in seeing what another tube does. The RCA is really very good, but I am just curious. What have you tried (reasonable $ ple...
Who makes a "true" Transmission Line speaker?...
I have chanced across a couple of mini-reviews during my outings at the bookstore. General impression was favorable. Have to admit I am out of my depth when it comes to TL etc, so will stop here.
Help with inverted phase Newbie Question
I recently switched speaker cable polarities on my system (which contains a BC3 preamp that inverts) and while I could not pinpoint what was better, it was better. I had been running it for over a year the 'wrong' way. If forced to describe, I wou...
Bryston 4B-ST, Magnepan 1.6QR, suggest a preamp.
Another vote for BC 21.1. I recently sold mine.... why?Got the Galatea, quite a bit more $ for some more refinement in the same family of sound. But if the price of the BC21.1 is all I could spend, I would have been perfectly happy with it.
Please advise - volume-variable buzz in spkrs
Phild, that is interesting. I have the exact same symptoms, and in fact I did have an SS pre that had no hiss. What was the guilty item and how did you find it? Of course my amp would be different from yours but it is worth a try.
Please advise - volume-variable buzz in spkrs
Did a lot of experimenting, and found that I could eliminate 75% of the buzz by rerouting cables. There was a set of ICs touching and partly intersecting the path of a power cable. Lifting it in my hand reduced it quite a bit. As the rat's nest di...
Blue Circle 21.1 vs Eastern Electric Minimax
Dean, many thanks for coming through; the check is in the mail! Whew, made it through the review, and found it interesting that you also included the BAT, which was on my list last week but has been slowly sliding off due to its reputed high level...
Blue Circle 21.1 vs Eastern Electric Minimax
HellO-O? Stop teasing me like this, guys. I looked for this review and of course, it is not on this site. On the Asylum? Searched for Gunbei, and minimax + BC 21. Nothing. I would like to get some feedback soon as decision time is near, very near...
