EMM Labs Dac-6 As long as the DAC-6 provides superior Redbook performanceit will hold it's value. When the new DVD software hits the market later this year, Sony's SACD investment will sink like just like the good ship BETA.Otherwise, look for for 50% off the EM...
Musician II owners what preamp works for you? SF Line 2. MII likes to run on the balanced inputs. You should also try the RS cables.
msb problems? I owned three MSB Link DACs. The upsample board sometimes does seat properly/fully in the sockets, due to the height of some caps in that area of the board.I suggest you request MSB replace the whole mother board & the upsampling board in your...
Your ''best kept secret'' speaker choice ? "VMPS......No one ever seems to refer to this company for high end loudspeakers" - that would be an oxymoron. The ''best kept secret''- http://www.pmcloudspeaker.com/index2.html
Good Universal Player with Balanced Outs Another alternative is to run the digital output of your ModWrighted Pioneer 38a into a Benchmark DAC-1($850.Retail).The DAC-1 has balanced outputs and can be connected directly to a power amp and has an excellent built-in headphone amp.
Best CD/DVD Player with "Variable audio Output" If you're looking for an interem solution, the new BenchmarkDAC-1 has both single-ended and balance varible outputs, three digital inputs and can be coupled with any CD/DVDplayer with a digital output.
Parasound Halo JC-1 If you need an amp with 400+ watts, check out the SpectronMII. It will drive anything and wouldn't heat up your listening room like the amps discussed above.
The best DAC for the money Having spent some time with the Benchmark Media DAC-1 in my system, just wanted to say it's the real deal.Don't buy anything before you check this little bugger out.Aloha.
The best DAC for the money I agree on the Theta, but if you budget is less than a grand, a used Cal Sigma or Alpha DAC are excellent.Since your system only had a digital source, the BenchmarkDAC-1 using balance ICs direct into a power amp would be aninteresting combo.
Best new/demo/used value for $7.5K range In this price range the Talon Ravens or a used pair of Khorus should also be on your list.I also like the Wilsons. Great build quality and resale value. You can alway start with the Sophias and trade upwhen your budget permits.
Best sounding cd's Here are three recent live CD recordings with excellent sound and performances:Bruce Barth -Live at the Village VanguardDr.Billy Taylor- Live at IAJE, NYBenny Green & Russekk Malone - Jazz at the Bistro
Where do I go from here ??? First, are you using Remote Sensing speaker cables with your MII? They'll make a much larger improvement then a plastic box with magic gem stones.
SONY SCD-1 vs the New Generation of Competition Handymnami- don't know what your budget is, but the Wadia861 would be my first choice, or a used 860 or 850. |
