Best for recording records?
Sorry I'm asking this just out of curiosity. Do you folks record your LPs because they are not available through Tidal or other (digital) streaming services or they actually sound better this way even after all the post processing? Thanks.
Need a preamp with tone controls!
There are many preamp out there with bass/treble controls. Some of the Vincents do have them. Don't know which NAD integrated you have but NAD c165Bee preamp has controls and is pretty decent. It's very detailed and neutral but some may consider t...
PHONO PREAMP
Out of curiosity, why would you want to run the output of a phono preamp, specially a very high end model, into a DAC? Do you have a digital amplifier downstream of the Benchmark??
Need Help identifying late husbands Stereo components Infinity Beta speakers
Truly sorry about your loss. God speed.
Cartridge/tonearm shaking and other questions
Thank you all. I isolated the turntable from the preamplifier by mounting it on a large - 13"x13", ceramic tile sitting on four damping blocks and played several LPs and I think I managed to eliminate the resonance. I'm guessing something in the p...
Cartridge/tonearm shaking and other questions
imhififan, thanks for the link. Excellent information about my first question/concern. Some of the posts also refer to some resonance issues which seems to be consistent with the behavior I see. The "shaking" I mentioned appears to be caused by th...
Cartridge/tonearm shaking and other questions
The turntable is nothing special but it appears to be very rarely used. It’s a Technics direct drive SL-3300 from the 80's with the standard S-shaped tonearm and an Audio Technica AT95E cartridge. I'm considering to upgrade the cartridge but want ...
Tekton Double Impact phase issues?
The only pair of speakers that made my neck hurt when listening and owned for the record shortest period of time were Magnepan MMGs. My hardwood floor is covered with tiny holes from the spikes just because I had to move the damn things around so ...
Moving up from Totem Arro
In my opinion I think you'll find it difficult to find speakers that compare to Arros in terms of sounding bigger than they actually are, especially at their price range. You didn't mention a budget but in this price range I really liked the Dynau...
power for mc452 and c2600
dlcockrum, out of curiosity, have you or anyone you know compared the 30A breaker with a 20A fuse to see/ hear a sonic difference? I'm no electrician but my guess is the dedicated 20A along with a lower gauge 10awg wire are making the difference y...
Phono preamp question
vair68robert, thank you. I've decided to repurpose my budget towards a suitable/better cartridge that I can use with this turntable and move it to better turntable if/when I decide to upgrade the table. I'll post a separate thread to ask for cartr...
Phono preamp question
Thank you all for the tips and recommendations. Even though I very rarely use this system, I'm having hell of a time to let go of it. These gears have been with me most of my adult life; the L40s since 1978. As a start, I'll follow dekay's great t...
Phono preamp question
dlcockrum, thanks for the recommendation. I’ll look into cartridges as well.DeKay, sorry about the confusion. I made a mistake with the model number. One thing I should add for full disclosure is I bought the Technics mostly out of curiosity and b...
Phono preamp question
Sorry, a correction its a GFP-565. I don't know why I was thinking 750.
Phono preamp question
dekay, by the way, I have no doubt my current preamp has a much better phono stage than that $40 piece of crap you recommended. But thanks for taking the time.
