Is remastered mainly just less jitter?
"...the really early masters for CD are poor.."Unless I’m not reading the numbers right, but looking at the DR values this theory doesn’t seem to hold up. There are lots of early 80’s CDs that are much better than then their later counterparts. I ...
Streaming Tidal - What hardware is out there beyond the Bluesound
I’ve been very happy with my Node 2 particularly the flexibility that it provides. I have used it as a "Streamer" as well as a preamp/streamer directly connected to my amplifier. The mobile app supports basically everything a preamp can provide - ...
Best full range loudspeaker for the used price of 10 to 13,000 dollars
Especially for speakers, what that kind of budget, I wouldn't buy anything without a proper audition, preferably a home audition.
Looking for an amplifer
I see Pass Labs X250 come up for sale around $2500 or so. Another option.
Tekton Electron has been released
Its nice to have so many options to choose from but I find the Tekton product line (or business model) a bit difficult to follow. Several speakers in almost exactly the same sizes with different designs and varying prices. I guess a long conversat...
Experience with Parasound P5?
Depending on what features you need and how much you're getting it for, it may or may not be the best option. I would get a Quick Silver basic pre if I were paying more than $700 for the P5.
Very Bad purchase from upscale audio Acoustic Zen Adagio
If l had purchased $10K worth of electronics from a (relatively) small shop, the owner should know me by first name next time I called for a piece of gear. This is particularly the case with UA since every time I called - when they carried Cary li...
How long does a DAC take to burn in?
More expensive gear = higher expectations = longer (break in) time to meet expectations Cheaper gear = less expectations = shorter (break in) time to meet expectations That's of course my completely non-technical analysis.
Tekton Double Impacts
"I think I now get what that patent is about." Could you please elaborate? Just as an aside, I also put priority on getting huge soundstage from speakers and while this could depend on many variables or be purely coincidental, I have found applyin...
Best speakers under $500? Fire away!
Any amp will "drive" any speaker. The question is how well. We hooked up my buddy's 8wpc homemade tube integrated amp to my Martin Logan electrostatics just for kicks and plenty of sound came out. They are normally fed by a pair of McIntosh MC2200...
Digital cable length- SPDIF vs AES/EBU- 1.5 meter for either?
Al, thanks as always for the thorough explanation. I saw the references to the comparisons between 1.0m and 1.5m cable lengths but was left with the impression that longer lengths were not desirable, all things considered and being equal. To your ...
Tekton Double Impacts
Good first impressions but you lost me on this comment "...despite generous dimensions, the DI's float a big stage." I would have expected nothing less from speakers at 4.5 feet tall, if placed at a reasonable distance from the back wall.
Digital cable length- SPDIF vs AES/EBU- 1.5 meter for either?
Sorry, just saw this thread. Are you all saying any coax digital cable that is not 1.5m long should be tossed out? Why are they even manufacturing cables that are in different (from 1.5m) lengths?
Jumpers for Integrated Amps: What are you guys using?
From Stereophile:"With Creek's latest flagship, the 5350SE, Mike Creek has finally achieved his design goal: a higher-powered, high-current integrated amplifier featuring a passive preamp stage, but that does not compromise linearity and gain."
Just Ordered New Speakers
I don't the reference model on their site. What are specs?
