Suggest one obsure album we all should hear While none of these are sonic spectaculars, I’ve always enjoyed listening to:1) "Living with the Animals" by Mother Earth (lead singer = Tracey Nelson and song writer Powell St. John who also was with the 13th Floor Elevators)2) "The Psychedelic S...
If you could, what live performances would you enjoy re-living? Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band opened for by It's a Beautiful Day, circa 1971 at the (abandoned) Fox West Coast Theater in Long Beach, California. The Mothers at the Phoenix Star Theater, circa 1968 (shortly after the release of "Freak Out")...
Magnepan's new LRS? jjss49: No, the review in ASR didn't alter my opinion. As I wrote, the technical analysis was beyond comprehension so I read the OP's conclusion and scanned the remaining 28 pages of posts for enlightenment...that insight never arrived. The purpos...
Magnepan's new LRS? I tried to read and understand the Audio Science Review analysis and the technical details of the original posting and most of the subsequent 28 pages were entirely opaque to me, but I've no background in engineering or acoustics. Allowing for tha...
700.00 speakers new or used The Magnepan LRS are about $650 new and I find them perfectly satisfactory. I also own Vandersteen 2C (original model). They're pretty nice and also cheap on the used market.
is this the greatest live band of all time? I'd have to give it to Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band.

Best small, desktop speakers, $500 or under (new or used) The Audioengine A2+ is easily within your budget. It has been favorably assessed by Stereophile; it's powered; it's available in wireless or wired configurations (I use the wired version with an Audioquest DragonFly Red and Jitterbug interposed be...
Does anyone collect something else other than music. Al,Yes, it is now called the "SPARK" Museum. Previously, it was known as "The Museum of Radio and Electricity". It has a non-commercial, low-power radio station called KMRE (the call letters are self-explanatory). You can visit them at kmre dot or...
Does anyone collect something else other than music. Al,That's an amazing radio collection. I've always lusted after a bakelite vintage radio. Are you familiar with The Museum of Radio and Electricity in Bellingham, Washington? It's got an amazing collection, supposedly the largest in private hands ...
Wow an old album that rocked your world The eponymous "It's a Beautiful Day" (first pressing by Columbia Records; not the "San Francisco Sounds" reissue). I attended two of the original group's concerts (one with Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band at The Fox West Coast Theater (an aba...
New TT for ~$1500 I understand you want "new" and you have certain aesthetic restrictions, too. Allowing for that, I also endorse a used VPI HW-19. I have a Mk 2 with a Mørch UP-4 tonearm and I’m pretty happy with that combination and the turntable can be easily up...
