Is it still worth buying a Lumin x1 in 2023?
I found this thread tonight as I’m finally considering trading in my S1 for an X1 but I know the D3/T3 came out last year so I was thinking that the X2 might come soon. Anyone with inside information? This thread was started 10 months ago stating ...
What comes after Harbeth 30.1s?
I used 30.2 in a 12’ x 15’ x 10’ tall room with a REL t7x. I turned the room 90 degrees and went with the SHL5+/t7x with a big improvement and used quite a bit of GIK acoustic panels. I now have 40.2 and no longer need the sub. I understand this i...
Amplifiers in use with big Harbeths (Mon 40 series) that work very well
I use 40.2 Anniversary’s with the darTZeel CTH-8550. Excellent.
To Harbeth or not to Harbeth, That is the question...
After auditioning 30.2 Anniversaries, I thought they were better but too similar to my Sonus Faber Cremona Ms to warrant a change. About 6 months later I bit on a pair of 40th Anniversary SHL5+ in Tamo Ash sitting on Deer Creek Audio stands. I rec...
Harbeth 30.1, 30.2, XD
In correspondence with Harbeth I am understanding that the 40th Anniversary brought bigger changes to the 40 and SHL5 series and smaller changes to the series below. For the XD line the 40th Anniversary were continued with no real changes in the u...
Which speakers, if any, combine the strengths of Harbeth and ProAc ?
I drove my Harbeth SHL5+ 40th Anniversary very easily and quite high volumes remained beautiful with an 87 watt VAC integrated. Lovely. I recently bought a DarTZeel CTH-8550 and the additional power (200 watts stated but Stereophile measured much ...
Harbeth 40.3 XD versus Harbeth 40.2
I read on the  Harbeth forum basically that in the SHL5 + and the 40.2 Anniversary they are essentially the exact speaker, but since they are no longer in their Anniversary year they are renaming them the .3 XD. There were bigger changes to the cr...
Best used integrated under $5k
No one has mentioned my VAC 160i. I have tried lots on the list. My VAC has the fully balanced option (+$1,500) and the MC/MM phono option (+$1,500). It was $12,500 out the door but I think mine’s worth about $5,500-$6,000 but without the options ...
Vac Sigma 170i Integrated
I’ve heard the 170iq integrated several times. I’ve owned the 160i integrated for 4 years. I absolutely love it. It’s almost as quick and strong in the bass as a SS, not mushy or slow at all. It’s still warm and lovely. I came from a PrimaLuna Dia...
Tube Failure question
Call Kevin Deal at Upscale Audio in LA. He’s the USA importer for PrimaLuna and may be the North American importer. He’s one of the most knowledgeable guys in tubes in general, especially every model of PrimaLuna. I used to have the PrimaLuna Dial...
Popular new/used SS stereo power amps under $2500?
I don’t think you “need” 100 watts as the Harbeth’s are 6 ohm and very easy to drive. Herb Reichert said, “The Cary SLI-100 integrated amp drove the P3ESRs with nuance and finesse.Read more at https://www.stereophile.com/content/harbeth-p3esr-40th...
Need Integrated Amp with Moving Coil Input
I have Harbeth SHL5Plus with the VAC 160i with MM/MC (Lyra Kleos). I’m a big Luxman fan too. My speakers were the 40th Anniversary and were the exact speakers from the Florida Audio Show where it was shown with the Luxman 509XL. I have to say that...
Pass Labs int 250
I have the SHL5Plus 40th Anniversary and drive it with a VAC integrated 160i. It’s a phenomenal combo. Every now and then when a tube acts up, I consider SS like Luxman, especially the 509X which is great with Harbeth. I think I’m the most happies...
Harbeth Super HL5+...thoughts
I listen to about all types of music and I’m very happy with my SHL5+. I’ve been tempted by SS amps by Pass and Luxman. I too have the 40th Anniversary in Tamo Ash. I would have preferred the Walnut but they were out at the time. My pair were the ...
Harbeth Super HL5 Plus speakers & integrated amp pairing recommendations
I’m driving my SHL5+ 40th with a VAC 160i. I run a REL T7i crossed at 45 just loud enough to not know it’s on but more of a feel thing for the lowest octaves. I’m tempted to try a Luxman 509x but the VAC is just sublime.
