NEW Pre Amp Processor - Narrowing down the list
I will only be of limited help since I have not auditioned all on your list, but did have one observation. If you like warm & musical sounds, I wouldn't pursue the Krell, which I felt leaned more toward dynamics and details (and has done so tr...
Revel F30 vs Revel F50 vs Used Revel Studios
The used Studios would be my hands-down choice between the F50 and the Studio...You get a lot in the jump between lines - and if they are close in price there is no question for me...Good luck,Jacob
Linn Klimax vs. Jeff Rowland Model 12?
Not to go entirely off topic, but considering both options, I would have to vote for Boulder! Better listening...Jacob
Any one else have this complaint?
Tim,I have similar objections to the posts on the Avalons, but it is nice for the finish and probably somehow contributes to some element of the sound (though the latter is a guess). I will definitely consider Avalon as my main option for my upcom...
Levinson 33h or 336?
IMHO (having compared both on the WP6 with transparent opus and all ML ref gear), the 33H is clearly the way to go if you like the ML sound. The 336 is far less subtle and a lot less involving to listen to at length... I auditioned with two of my ...
What companies, out of Business, did you LOVE???
Apogee - overwhelmingly missed the most.I also sentimentally miss Counterpoint and Melos (my first amp and preamp respectively), though I have to say I have found other equipment that suits my tastes far more, though. Not the same for Apogee...
Transparent VS Synergistic Research
I have tried both and found that, in both of the systems I use (feel free to email if you want details), the transparent cables had far better soundstaging and definition. The differences in tone were also considerable and most notable on piano an...
Best CD player directly to Amp?
I would go Audio Aero (old or new) for your associated equipment, but that is based upon my tastes...ML 390S is also a strong choice, but probably not as well suited to your system (unless you like a LOT of detail).Jacob
Is there an end.......ever?
After ballpark 1300 CDs, I'm in the same spot too... Too much great music and too little time, but I still keep finding other must haves!Somehow, I doubt it will change if we're both past a thousand already...Oh well, eh?Jacob
Help: Noisy Rowland 10 power supply
You may just have a problem with a ground loop. You can search prior threads for solutions and discussion. Try a 2 to 3 prong adapt (from any hardware store) to defeat the ground on the Rowland and see if the hum goes away. If so, then you do have...
Have you heard the Aria amps by Mike Elliott?
As you probably know, he does offer home auditions on all but his special editions. Unfortunately I haven't yet listened to the Aria models, but do like the sound of some of his other designs too - and will be checking back to see what others have...
PsAudio 300?
I have both the 300 and the 600 in separate systems and have been both surprised and impressed with the results. Impressions are similar to those described above. One version will be a must in my systems now...Just let me know if you have any ques...
Best CD player
I would consider Audio Aero Capitole or Levinson 390S if you can pick either up (and you may need to stretch, but either would be worth it)...I am told you should also consider Sony ES or the SCD1, though I can't personally comment.Good luck,Jacob
mixing tubes and transistors
A number of preamp tubes do well if left on (last and can perform well depending on time constants in design & warm up time). Without knowing yours I can't comment further, but your dealer and manufacturer can give some advice.Even with mute a...
Mosfet amps A true compromise betw. tubes and SS?
Interesting question - from my own listening (and there are a lot more experienced listeners in this forum), very bad MOSFET designs have similarities to very bad tube designs ("mist") and very good MOSFET designs can sound remotely similar in cha...
