Speaker shootout update; aggressive treble eliminating some (fairly?) My last Harbeth post as they go back to their home tomorrow. The KT150s sounded wonderful in the QuickSilvers with the Harbeths - my favorite!Big soundstage, sharp transeints, gobs of micro detail, natural sounding instruments and vocals. The highs wer...
Speaker shootout update; aggressive treble eliminating some (fairly?) @decooney today TungSols 7581A (EL34) were in the Quickies running the Harbeths, still using lamp cord.Very lively and dynamic! The transients had some bite to them. There was little bit of a 'gritty' overlay to the presentation which actually enhan...
Speaker shootout update; aggressive treble eliminating some (fairly?) @decooney @hilde45 the Quickies are up and running today and I think they are a fabulous match.Part of that is the tube compliment - Baldwin input,Gold Lions for both driver tubes and KT88s.Warm and flowing. No sharp transients but who cares when ...

Are MULLARD NOS EL34s and LTA ZOTL40 REF worth the price of admission? It's your money to spend as you like of course.I have found that I prefer new production power tubes and flavoring the presentation with small signal tubes.I can easily replace the np tubes every couple of years without going bankrupt:-)

what is your opinion ? I don't have horns at the present time but have a story to share about an old pair of Celestion Ditton bookshelves with broken wire clips that are going in a guest room after repairs.I've been listening to them for three days in my regular system...
DAC choices -- help me cross the line Look up teajay's reviews and other threads here about the dacs you're researching.I like my Tubadour lll very much.Mine has the upgrades caps only,so not really an se.All I can compare it to is the tubes Vincent CD player that it replaced.I loved ...
Solid states more accurate than tubes? It depends on which speakers are used with the amps.Tubes with particular speakers can present a more accurate presentation than a ss amp will. It's the way they compliment each other's distortions.
PS Audio BHK lacking.. As tubes age they at the 'end of their lives' sound pretty lackluster. The gold lion tubes that PS Audio recommends are fine tubes but emphasize the mids and bass.A faster sounding lively tube is the JAN Phillips 12AU7.It's one to put on your list ...
Hard of Hearing Audiophile. I also suffer from tinnitus and hyperacusis,so my system is tailored for the way I hear.My brother wears hearing aids that boost frequencies in the presence region where I'm so sensitive to.His system is a little too sharp for me and he says high...
