Which AV receiver to buy??
I hate the remote on my Denon 3300 so much I'm thinking of selling it. The fan does not seem to be loud on mine, can't hear it from my listning chair.
Murphy s Laws for Audiophiles
When you sell your speakers and the guy is on his way to pick them up you try a new tweak that makes them sound better than ever.
Ethics of last minute auction "poaching"
Is it ethical to pace yourself during a running race and sprint at the end? Any strategy to win within the rules is fairplay.
Which AV receiver to buy??
I have owned a Yamaha 2095,a NAD T770, and a Denon 3300. The NAD was by far my favorite. It has more power even though it is rated much lower. I dont like the Denon. Set-up is unnecesssarily complicted. You can only use the tuner from the remote w...
Best speaker a wife would tolerate
My wife hated the look of my NHT 2.9's. She loves the look of my Proac 3.8's.
I give up on HT
I use a two channel preamp with a processor bypass loop. I use a ht receiver which powers the center and rear channels, and send receivers main pre-outs to the bypass ins on the preamp. Many pre-amps including Sonic frontiers, Audio Research, VTL,...
Coping in an Age of Uncertainty
Ok Dekay and 914nut, I see your point about no good sacd music. I needed a new dvd player anyway so its no gamble to me. I do believe the war is over and sacd has won, and we will see a lot of new music on this format.
Tuning speaker / room response?
I have a similar question to Njonker's. I have plotted a graph using the test tones from Stereophile test cd 3. I used a Radio Shack spl from the listening position. My results are much flatter than Njonker's, staying within +-4 db of 80db at 1 kH...
dvd vs cd?
I will be very surprised if we don't see several hundred more sacd titles in the coming year. The 9000es is selling like crazy. I'm sure Sony wants to sell us software for all the players it is selling.
Coping in an Age of Uncertainty
It surprises me that people who were willing to pay $3000 to $5000 or even more for a cd playback system to get the best sound possible are not interested in a $1200 player that will give them clearly superior sound.
Coping in an Age of Uncertainty
One reason I decided to get the 9000es is that I was buying a handfull of cds the other day and and was wondering how long it will be before the same titles are available on sacd. Like everyone on this site I own a lot of music on cd that I will u...
Coping in an Age of Uncertainty
I have been watching these threads for a while and have decided to buy a 9000es. It's worth the money as a dvd player so it's no loss if the format dies. Sony has shown it's serious about sacd with the introduction of the new less expensive player...
Sony 900ES SACD sound vs CD - Help
I know someone who works at a discount electronics retailer and he told me the 9000es is their hottest selling item. Sony is moving these things and I bet software will soon follow. I would like to here from more people who own burned in 9000's as...
Rotel955 tray closes
My 971 does this and it is a problem because sometimes just setting the disc in the tray causes it to close and it can pinch a cd if it is not seated properly.
